  1. Lasers are for mall ninjas. But if you want to put one one your rifle don't do it with the tapco. It works well for grips of the bottom, lights on the side, and it wont melt unless you go full auto in Arizona. Doesn't the UTG side mount have 2 rails? that's your best bet for a solid mount.
  2. If it fires from a shotgun shell, even if its a solid single projectile though a rifled bore, the gun is still a shotgun. Asked a gun store owner once, thats what he told me.
  3. A point just occurred to me. It's a bolt gun, it fires slowly, I won't be using it nearly as much as the 223. So I use less ammo and don't need to stock quite as much. 308 is sort of a less is more type caliber. 308 it is. Thanks guys.
  4. I have chosen to buy a Savage Edge at some point for first bolt rifle. The problem I'm having is what caliber to get it in. I have a saiga 223 and therefor have 223 ammo stocked up. The only other caliber I'd chose is .308, so the real question is this. Do I buy it in .223 and stock up on just one caliber for my center fire rifles, or diversify and buy it in the more expensive/powerful .308? I don't do much hunting and if I did I'd use my 12g with a slug barrel. At this point 223 is cheaper to buy then 308 is, but is diversifying worth the extra ammo cost?
  5. I like the idea a lot, that being said knives don't explode.
  6. Maybe the HP gives it a golf ball effect? Little air bubble may help somehow.
  7. Hmm... Not sure what to say. The tech site shouldn't work at all if its that low.
  8. When I put my tech sites on with my Krebs at the same time it still works. So my sight line is nice and straight. What kind of Aimpoint are you using? The micros work best for co witnessing on an Ultimak.
  9. 30's are just fine. A bit of side to side isn't really a big issue. Mine had a bit of side to side but always worked 100%. However if you plan on doing mostly bench rest shooting 20's/25's will be less in the way. (Shorter mags won't hit the table.) Congrats on getting to a gun friendly state.
  10. Side mounts yes, but why would they complicate an Ultimak?
  11. Matched all my thoughts about right Jim, but I reload for my 12. So the cost is lower then rifle practice. Nothing beats .20 cent 00 buck/slugs. (I cast my own shot and slugs) Even cheaper if I get free lead.
  12. 5.56 was made for 20" barrels. Higher velocity better wounding. Still good out of a 16" though. I haven't seen many ballistics from 5.45, so I can't really say about the effectiveness. Jim I didn't know any one else used their Saiga .223 for HD. Just out of curiosity why do you use it over a 12g?
  13. I think his real question is the 5.56 vs 7.62x39 ballistics, and how they drop at different rates. I have a bit of experience with AK peeps. The only true "ghost" ring site is the tech sight, but you trade off for regular optics mounts. It also uses a dust cover that requires a little bit more work to remove then normal. It is the best if you don't want a side mounted optic. The mojo and Krebs are very good, but are not true ghost ring sites. They don't bluer as well. However they cost half as much as tech sites and you can use standard side mounted optics. I am currently using a Krebs rea
  14. The 100 series is a 30,06 saiga that you can't convert. That trigger should work fine in a saiga 308. "Beat me to it when I was grabbing a saiga 100 pic ChileRelleno."
  15. I had one of my p mags followers break a bit, it was that little piece that stops it from going all the way up. So it went all the way up and jammed my bolt open after emptying the mag. I considered making all my mags do that, but thought the plastic wouldn't be strong enough. 30 seconds with a file and now it works fine. I too want to know more of the Last Round Bolt Hold Open To be used with the Saiga B.A.S.T.A.R.D. system. It sounds bad ass.
  16. Most saiga 223 get 2-5 MOA and can be made to be more accurate. The AK will never be crazy accurate, but it will always fire. Try the search, this has been talked to death.
  17. I won a contest on Facebook the other day, the prize was an ISA (internal stock adapter) made by MSA. I found it in my mail today and it looks great. Now I just need to buy a stock for it. +1 MSA
  18. Well I looked over at the MSA Facebook page yesterday and saw a little contest going on. "Simple trivia question.... winner gets an I.S.A. shipped to them. What movie did this line come from. "I'm a necessary evil"." I answered with "Lord of War - quote by Nickolas cage at the end of the movie. One of my favorites." I for one can say Nate seems to be back in business. My I.S.A. gets shipped out Monday or Tuesday, so I'll be looking for it. +1 MSA and Nate, Still loving my AR mag adapter, talking my buddy in to getting one too hopefully.
  19. Hope to go Sunday. My buddy picked up his first saiga, a 223 with a 20" barrel. The Saiga bug is airborne. So he will test that and I will be sighting in my new Krebs rear sight. I will also be testing my new Mossberg 500 with home pressed shells. I hope not to become a lightning rod as the weather look worse in the evening. This topic feels better suited to the general form.
  20. I think that regular is where the piston is attached to the bolt carrier. Short stroke just means less mass will have to be forced back. So lighter loads are able to cycle better, and you get less felt recoil. It does add complexity and a few more parts though. Regardless of what piston system a gun has, any piston is better then DGI. Just my opinion.
  21. The SCAR is not DGI it's a short stroke piston driven system. Just like so many other guns. Short stroke piston guns work just as well as piston driven, and in some ways better. Less mass flying back gives less felt recoil. The Sig 556 and variants use this system, as well as VZ.58,M1 carbine, and that Piston AR Ruger made. Most Piston ARs are really short stroke piston systems. Sorry for the rant, but I don't like factual errors.
  22. I did some fondling last Friday, it's a solid yet light rifle. It was just a basic version so no rails or folding and telescoping stock. It was a bit off feeling to me. Felt a bit too civilian somehow. Maybe the railed and fancy stock version would fix it. I'd still rather have an FN SCAR s16 or s17 for that 7.62 punch. If only money wasn't an option. Cost at my dealer was $2550.00 tax included.
  23. Krebs peep sights are quite nice, I just ordered one. Only cost $65. I tried the tech sight, but found that it's hard to use optics with. If you just want irons the tech sight is very good, but it will cost $120 ish. Any peep is better than a standard AK notch.
  24. Thats right, they have no good side. But back on topic. Boba Debt did you ever get your safety out?
  25. You had me convinced before, but that shoe string thing is just stupid. Oh and I'm never going to touch my disconnecter. Thinking about cutting my safety to get on the ATFs'good side though. It makes you think, maybe that is why slip on shoes are becoming so popular. Anti shoe string government plot...
