finally got a job!

Niiiiiiice. Congratulations. Do you get an employee discount? -
For the ten millionth time: The Stolen Valor Act is still there, and still prevents you legally from possessing or wearing military awards you have not earned. The only thing that is considered unconstitutional (and rightly so in my opinion) is charging people for lying about it verbally. Talking out of your ass isn't against the law, or we would all be in very serious trouble. I can say to you "I'm an Army Ranger" all I want, regardless of how ludicrous it is ( allow women in infantry plzkthxbai), and as much as you'd all hate me and think me an idiot, it's still perfectly legal. AFAIK those mags were developed along with the AN-94 rifle but I've never heard of them actually being used in service. I'm kind of surprised there are any in the US at all.

I'm with Tony. If we are only judging by appearance and not functionality, I can't stand the looks of that wood VFG and folding stock. The PSL Jr. gets my vote.

A Great find or a piece of junk?
Casp replied to AZ Gun Nut's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Those were mainly created for sales in California; slide action means no limitation on using a detachable magazine in combination with a pistol grip. Big 5 Sporting Goods carried them for a very short while, that's the only time I've ever handled them. They are not like a typical pump-action shotgun; there is no slide release button, the bolt is simply held forward by the recoil spring. Thus, of course, you're fighting the recoil spring every time you cycle it. I am unsure as to whether the barrels were made specifically with no gas port, or if they somehow plugged the gas port or the gas -
On an interesting side-note, this is one of the few autoloading rifles that ejects to the left.

Okay, after cooling down and getting some food, I managed to completely retype what I was going to say earlier. Much of this is stuff I'm restating from other posts of mine, but I feel it's worth repeating (a lot). If you already know all of this stuff, I apologize (mostly to myself for typing so much.) +1 The original Armalite and Colt design and US Gov't specification calls for all three pieces of the receiver (upper, lower, and rear extension/buffer tube) to be machined from 7075 T6 forgings. Cast or extruded 6061 is softer. The only "benefit" I can see to a 6061 billet receiv

EPA Considering Banning Lead Ammunition

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Many if not most of these dipshits may very well actually believe that this sort of thing will have a positive affect on the environment, just like using an electric car plugged into a wall with a coal-burning power plant on the other side, or defoliating thousands and thousands of acres of natural habitat for corn fields to make ethanol fuel. These are the kinds of people you could convince that wind turbine generators actually use up electricity to generate wind, rather than the other way around, because there's no -

Hey, didn't there used to be a series of Saiga game consoles? -

Tony can do it. Tony can do anything. You know, on that note, I did once entertain the idea of rebarreling an S12 for .70-150 Winchester... if it weren't prohibitively expensive to shoot, and it didn't explode, you know it would be one fun blaster. -

For the last 3 semesters of high school (class of 2005), I was in a "computer technology" class. For the most part it was a computer maintenance sweatshop so that the school district didn't have to hire more IT people. All of the computers when I started there were fairly ancient, lots of 80486 and Pentium-I machines, which were donated to the school either by parents or by other school districts. Late 2004, one of the local community colleges donated 120 or so Pentium-III machines. Every day, several new P3s would leave the computer lab and the 486s and P1s they replaced would come back a -

I am kind of surprised that there is no conflict with the CST patent for the 10/22 version. -

@Paulyski, Jpanzer, and Duke: I'd say Mark Wahlberg did a pretty damn good job in Shooter. On the other hand, an action movie super-cast that I'd like to have seen: -
@Predator - That's the Ramline folding stock, yes? Also, that is a CRAZY finish.

LRBHO Tutorial?
Casp replied to theplastik's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
I was thinking the same thing. Haven't seen the CGW design but just from the description I can make a well-educated guess, and it sounds very similar to the CST automatic bolt stop for the Ruger 10/22. Of course that one does take modded magazines, but the idea is the same since you can't work off of the follower on those rotary magazines. Rather than only locking the bolt open when there is an empty magazine in place, it always locks the bolt open unless there is a loaded magazine in place; works off negative-presence-of-cartridge instead of positive-presence-of-follower. Similar, I belie -
I sure wouldn't mind having one of those Anzio Ironworks bolt-action 20x102mm pieces, if they didn't break the bank every time you pull the trigger...
-
That's the same model stock I have and have problems with. I don't know, maybe I got a fluke.

One thing I'll say about magazines is stick with Ruger factory rotary mags and the Tactical Innovation TI-25 mags. They aren't cheap, but they are the best out there, far superior to the Butler Creek, Ramline, etc. I've had trouble with every other thing I've tried. Almost none of the aftermarket mags snap in solid. Even if they do, you gotta remember that the 10/22's ejector is part of the magazine feed lips, so the plastic lip ones get busted up pretty fast and then won't feed right. The Butler Creek steel lips ran okay but the follower would bind up when it got real dirty (probably abo

Semper Peratis Zombieus
Casp replied to Smiddywesson's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
OH MY GOD IT'S BLOWBACK NOT DI. Why would a .22LR auto loader need a locked breech? Not to say that it doesn't jam. It's a very tiny belt-fed weapon, which is a problem in and of itself. -

Casp replied to Smiddywesson's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Piece of cake. for the ultimate .22 in zombie times go with the Calico M-110 pistol. 100 round helical magazine. http://calicolightweaponsystems.com/home/index.php?page=22-2 They also have carbines in .22, 9mm-50 round, and .40cal 50 round. I always picture a zombie flick hero as a grizzled old guy who's kids hate him, wife left him, got fired, etc. and decides to go out only after taking every un-living thing he can with him. I can do you one better: Lakeside Razorback belt-fed .22LR AR-15. Magazine capacity is whatever you want it to be. -
What will kill the AR platform?
Casp replied to Vultite's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
I don't know anything about that, but I'll personally stay away from piston AR uppers until they can take care of the carrier-tilt problem (or maybe they have already, I don't keep up on them). But for the platforms designed around the piston system, it's not a problem. Keeping the weight of the moving mass as low as possible, shifting the center of gravity rearward for better balance, and reducing weight in general are the very reasons the DI gas system was invented in the first place. So, yes, converting to a short-stroke piston system does add a lot of weight to the front end of
