  1. Stove piping is when the case separates and the next shell wedges in it, is that whats happening? or is it just failing to extract?
  2. I dont know. I think they are loud too. But then my 16" AR doesn't lean toward being silent either. It gets worse wit ha muzzle brake on too. Just for comparison. My 16" AR when it had the Y comp brake on it was the absolute loudest rifle I have ever had, even with ear plugs. The Saiga was tolerable. I have another 20" AR, and it was quite a bit quieter than the Saiga. I notice the Saiga is still a little louder than the 16" AR still when shooting off the side of a pickup and it echoing back in the bed. Maybe it has something to with the way the gas is used to cycle it?
  3. Ithink all you are going to get is whta shooter can do. I doubt there has been lab testing for ballistics with it. At 220 or so I was grouping around 7" with XM193 factory stock config. That improved when I worked on the trigger to smooth it out. I think with a lot of practice and concentration they are capable of 1 1/2 to 3/4 or so MOA with some decent mid price range ammo. But thats is shooter dependant too. They are capable of solid 1 1/4+ MOA converted and scoped on good ammo, at least mine is. I guess it depends on what you are trying to hit at 300, its not going to be a va
  4. Yeah, once you add the hi cap mag or pistol grip you have to have it comply with 922r and not have more than 10 imported parts on it as defined by the BAFTE. I make and sell drop in skeleton pistol grip stocks once in a while, but to make them legal takes some extra parts. I think if you use US made stock and grip and US mags it makes the 10 or less parts rule. Its better to convert using a US made trigger group or other internal parts like the piston that way you don't have to worry about what mags you have.
  5. Geez I just read back over this and no wonder Ronswin is wondering what the hell I am talking about, I had the T28 on my mind when talking about the T168. The T28 is a 4x that has an illuminator that is separate and attaches with a rail on the side of the scope, the T168 has the illuminator built in. Sorry if I have included anyone else in my perpetual state of confusion I see what i was talking about, the knob on the T168 has a detent that lets you know when its on or off, and you can barely feel it, coupled with the knob turning pretty easy anyway, its easy to bump it on without knowi
  6. I have oggled them since they 1st were introduced. I don't have a 10/22 or I probably would have had one by now. http://www.rbprecision.com/id72.htm - lots of pictures of them. $200 without a stock. Like said it's a dress up kit that provides a lot of function oo.
  7. Brownells Allumahyde II, works great on plastic furniture, but a long cure time before it really hardens up, I give them about a month to cure enough to not get dings.
  8. Not in stock, but they list them http://www.globaltrades.com/ak_muzzl_1.html
  9. As far as I know all the Russian scopes are solid and dependable, hold zero, dont fog and all that stuff. The 2 different mounts are a AK style and SVD style, you want the AK style for the Saiga, the other one wont fit the rail right.
  10. There is nothing wrong with what you chose, but as you see there are tons of options, which is a good thing. I have never tried it, it but at low power the varibale at 1.5x scope may cowitness the irons and still be useable in 6x. That would be handy, if the sights didn't interfere to much with the scope. Heheh, "gucci gear" The knob is fine, the whole illumintor is loose on the rail on the scope itself. I would bet some teflon tape would probably fix it and heck its not that big of deal anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though
  11. I have not done any moly coating of the barrel, because there is some who claim once you go moly treat a barrel, you have to keep using it. I haven't taken time to look into it to see what the fuss is. But as to using moly grease or moly antisieze on working parts, you betcha. I use it on just about all the builds I do, both ARs and AKs. Especially on trigger parts and axis pins. My only complaint is the stuff gets everywhere, and migrates. Beavis, I think the Saiga makes a decent predator hunting rifle, if you keep in mind the range and limitations of accuracy to the rifle. I have
  12. I have read some say there is slap to the single hook G2s, I think that is more mental induced BS so they can feel better about the extra work they do. I have shot both, the difference is so slight, its not worth going to extra effort either way. The single seemed lighter, the double seemed smoother, but it was so subtle, I may have been imagining it. Its not that much more work to make a double slot if thats what version you have. As far as the design goes, I think the reason the hammer has ears on each side is because of the design for full auto parts, not so much for a double ho
  13. I don't call coyotes, but just out and about the last couple years I have gotten a couple with my Saiga 223 out to 250, maybe a little farther, with a scope rested on a post or ATV . Shot placement and Blackhills 60gr Vmax. At that distance I hit heart or lung as it stood sideways looking at me, and it dropped pretty quick, one yip and it was over. Like any other type of hunting a gut shot, or hip shot or what ever and the 223 is no different than a 243 or whatever. The Saigas are not going to be a long range varminter no matter how you dress them up, you are not going to be accurat
  14. That's one reason I like the mildot, not that I have the brain power to use the range estimation, but the crosshairs are finer. The illuminator is loose on the rail on mine and jiggles, but I think there are some ways around that if it bothers me enough. There are plenty out there who claim they threw them in the trash 1st time out, but I have read about a few who have taken them Iraq and lived to tell about it. , that's good enough for me, I am just popping coyotes and prairie dogs and as vicious as those rodents are, I am confident of survival with the meager Leapers on. While I
  15. Its a pretty decent buy, just be aware parts are hard to come by. They are also 1/12 twist IIRC, so that limits you to ammo selction. They do use AR mags. I have not heard anyone complain that they break, and they have been known to be accurate. You can still buy stocks from ACE I think. they get rarer all the time since they are not improted amymore.
  16. I must be doing something wrong, because I don't have to modify followers for them to work on the Bulgy mags for me. I do have to dremel the mag so the followers will come all the way up, the ramp on the follower needs to ride on the lip, but once done they feed fine all the way through.
  17. I think you are good up to 68 grain, 62 is about ideal, and you can go down to 50gr probably even 45gr without any problems. In fact from those far more experienced than me in ballistics - http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm#whattwist - "At typical .223 velocities, a 1:9 twist will stabilize bullet lengths equivalent to lead-core bullets of 40 to 73 grains in weight."
  18. Some people like the NC star scopes, but I haven't had good luck with them, the cheap 4x had decent glass, but the adjustments felt cheap and were plastic (like many of the Chinese scopes) the "clicks" disapeared when cighting in, I suspect the plastic nub wore down the spring ride against. and to top it all off the cross hairs came apart. scratch 1, the next was a Target sports, relabeled or mad by the same place as NCstar, glass was so-so, would lose zero after so many rounds. Scratch 2. Next was the compact 3x9 got with a rifle, bad glass 1/2 MOA adjustments that translate to 3 inch move
  19. Heh, the feed back is pretty much good. I have heard he takes forrrrrrever to ship some things, especially if its coming from mother Russia. Other than that he is high priced, but some of thst you can only get from him or Tantal
  20. I had tried a illuminated NCstar 3x9 compact and sold it right away, mine had terrible glass, blurred edges and cloudy. To top it off it had 1/2 MOA adjustments, hope they have gotten better since.
  21. AR15.com has a seller that has sets of those hanguard sets for $68, http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=123&t=280121 and he is a dang good guy to deal with to boot.
