Just because you can open carry an AR doesn't mean you should. I'm a big fan of gun rights and having the ability to protect one's self and family, but this looks like it is done for shock value. If I walked into a restaurant and someone was open carrying a sidearm in a holster, or I saw a bulge under a jacket, no big deal. But if I walk into a restaurant with my kids and see dumb and dumber open carrying rifles with looks that say "I can't get laid and live in mom's basement, but I've got an AR," then I'm out of there.
