  1. Has anyone tried to use a s12 cover? It has a small door that moves out of the way as the bolt moves back?
  2. The barrel on 308 is thicker than on ak47 or ak74. Wont fit unless you turn down thw barrel. You cant bore out the block because the walls will be too thin and snap.
  3. Saiga will do ok at 500 depending on size of target, human size will be no problem.
  4. You know..... its frustrating that such a range is closed to the public. I have to go all the way out the the woods just to do a little shooting. And the JBLM range isnt too far away from me. Also when i was a contractor on base for GDLS styker group as a mechanic it was still off limits for me. Such bull.
  5. you cannot fire 7.62x39 ammo in your 308 gun, they are completely different calibers, now, I have to tell you that there is some confusion with new people regarding the 308 and the 7.62 round, There are people that call the 7.62x51 round (which is almost identical to the 308 round yet has a small difference) they call it the 7.62 NATO round. The 7.62 NATO round and the 308 have a small difference but can be safely fired in a saiga 308 rifle. The 7.62 NATO round is the 7.62x51 cartridge. So when some people say you can fire a 7.62 round in your saiga 308 they are not referring to the ak4
  6. Remington does not have that great quality, Remington has a lot of aftermarket support, but a basic rem has a lot of slop, parts are cheap, and stock is cheap, they shoot decent, but I am not gonna say rem quality is that fantastic.
  7. How will the suppressor companies ever know what gun you had it on? When you get a suppressor it isn't registered to a gun, but as an individual you pay the tax stamp and can put it on any gun you want , so how would they really prove it was on an Ak anyway?
  8. The shift horizontally is because the barrel vibrates and the other ammo throws the bullet out if the barrel when the barrel is pointed in that direction. Anything can happen to bullets if they are not identical. Diff ammo manufacturers have diff powders and primers and such, that changes barrel harmonics, the change in barrel harmonics can change point of impact in any direction, not just vertical, vertical is usually change in powder volume.
  9. Hey, there is a vepr x54r on the molot usa website for $1,499.00 just letting you know. crazy price.
  10. Most saiga 308 are gonna be 5/8x24 if you don't want to turn the barrel down, other sizes you will need to turn down the barrel and then cut the threads.
  11. I chose the 308, I reload for it and have reloading components stocked away for shtf, ammo availablility does not worry me. When ammo runs out, I make more.
  12. All AK style triggers and discconnectors are similar, it may require minor fitting but it should work. I personally like the vepr ones, and I polished mine a bit and love the 2 stage it has.
  13. yup, thats why most rifles even with an accuracy guarantee wont group well for some people, and thats why so many rifles get returned with " this one is a lemon" tag. Yet for some people, even a saiga 308 or vepr 308 group well and shoot well, granted there is some variance rifle to rifle but for the most part, its usually the shooter.
  14. These days, even basic hunting rifles shoot around 1 MOA, and some even have a guarantee that they should shoot 1 MOA with factory ammo. So The Saiga and Mosin here are nothing special. But They are fun to shoot and have a historic appeal!!
  15. have you talked to him to see if he can ship to U.S. ? maybe offer a group buy, I am down to get the basic one, let me know and we will work on it.
  16. are you worried about the expense? or you live in a restricted state?
  17. I used that grip pod, because i had no bipod and it was on my buddies AR, I took it off his gun while he wasnt shooting and put it on mine and it worked great, not the prettiest thing, but works, and its great that once i was done, back on the AR it went.
  18. Because the rifle has to swing more on the pivot of the bipod when its more towards the front of the rifle, the rifle becomes less susceptible to move from our body movements. None of us are super still, so with it farther away from the body, the reticle in the scope will be more stable, but for faster movement, yes, have it closer would be better. I prefer stability over the speed.
  19. The vepr receivers should be the same size as the 308 veprs, and a lot of the parts for those fit from the regular ak's.
  20. I think that question is best suited for the cbrps people, i doubt anyone here tried it yet.
  21. what are your questions?? start posting and people will reply.
  22. Power Class 3-12x44 mm , this one seems to be decent, but something leads me to believe that that is not a very durable optic. Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 Rifle Scope, This optic is really good for that rifle, I had one for 4 years of not being treated so nice and basically being a truck gun, thrown around, bumped around and had zero issues with it. I gave it to my brother and he still has it and uses it for the same purpose. Its only $169 too. Not much of a steep price. maybe wait a week and pick up that extra $70 bucks to get it instead of the power class scope.
  23. i always put the bolt open with no mag in the gun, once i have the bolt in the open position, i put in the mag, that way i dont throw out a few rounds trying to find that sweet spot.
  24. Dont get the flimsy cheap side mount scopes, there several side mount scope mount that are really good but the others flex and are flimsy, the midway sidemount is great, the vepr side mount is good, and the kalinka bp-02 mount is good if you use lighter optics. all others in my experience will flex and move around too much. scopes, well try the redfield battle zone scope, sounds decent and the nikon scopes in the $100-200 range are good too.
  25. you can shoot on someones property as long as the land is outside of city limits, and he allows you to shoot there. The saiga 308 is a good rifle, accuracy will depend of your ammo, if you dont wanna convert, dont convert, start to shoot your rifle and get to know it. after a while you will feel more comfortable with your rifle and learn to remove the trigger group and strip the rifle for maintenance and such. after you are comfortable with the rifle and you learn how the trigger works, then you will be able to do the trigger mod yourself, not convert, but clean up the trigger to feel a li
