If its considered "featureless" (no p-grip, folding/ thumbhole stocks, flash hiders, etc) then you're good. Add that stuff, you need a mag lock. I know radlock makes one. I plan on doing my own that I can attach the key to when shooting in free states.

I don't own a gun in this platform, but my time stationed with the Marines has told me so far that the AR is more accurate than me, and can take a lot of abuse. I had a M16a4 for a while, and a M4 now. All I do in the field is lube them, they haven't failed yet in desert or jungle conditions. I just hate cleaning the things after field ops. My $.02 Don't ask me why they had a corpsman carrying the 16 as long as I did, that was a heavy mother with all the crap we have on our weapons. I would get one, but between the s223 and my Sig556, that round is about covered.

Buy it! The details, worry about those later.

Sig Sauer 7.62x 39 (556R)

Is this the 550 based platform or an AR platform? If the former, I didn't realize they made 556s in anything other than .223. Did you try adjusting the gas if it is the 550 based platform? -
I go to boot camp and the sell out, great. Maybe I'll work on making my own once I get some leave.

Can't keep bullet guide in place?
jimmy_stikx replied to wlnt's topic in Conversions and Modifications for the Saiga firearms
L2 if you do what MD described, I'd find a machine screw of proper length and then find a nut and lock washer or a nylock nut. Once the hole is drilled, slide the nut in the reciever under the trunnion on the open end of a wrench that fits it, and tighten from the bullet guide side. -
Praetorian, you do realize that by swapping bolts you have more than likely thrown off the headspacing of your rifle, right? And opened yourself up to any number of problem because of it?
-
I knew all that, but I guess I left myself open to that. I meant how do you swap the handguard itself out of the gas tube (obviously one with the retainers). I have a Romy G kit and I can't for the life of me figure out to get the old one out without destroying it, or drilling out the spot welds.
-
Okay, I have to ask, how the heck do you change the upper handguard on the gas tube?
-
If you do, you'll find out on the last round, at least that's how my mag worked out. No it's not a sure fire, just one I modded for my Saiga, fed fine til the last round. But now I got a homebrew in there and it hand feeds good.

What's the easiest way to make a saiga compliant?
jimmy_stikx replied to MikePGS's topic in Saiga .223
Or make your own out of pipe! I did. I need to fire test it but it hand feeds pretty good, after that I'll drill and tap it. Thank goodness for JB Weld I should note, that is not exactly a safe route to go, the whole JB weld bit, A home made bullet guide should be no problem. The mags will need to be modified, Galils less the 74 style. -
Collapsable Stock for PLR16
jimmy_stikx replied to RDSWriter's topic in Other Weapons - RIFLES (non-AK based)
Not sure how'd you attach it to the gun, but some steel rod heat with an oxy-acetolene torch and bent should do the trick, might have to aneal it once done though. -
Mine shot fine until the mag release loosened up and made the trunnion not being set far enough back an issue. And Century has been unhelpful about it. I'm going to probably remove the trunnion and replace the barrel with a new and then set the trunnion and head space.

Which rotary tool is best for a conversion?
jimmy_stikx replied to 22_Shooter's topic in Tech Section
Get one from a school wood shop, or a similar style (all the ones I've been around are really quiet compared to regular ones) Apparently belt drives make quieter pumps. To be honest though, I didn't see anything that a good set of metal working files couldn't take care of and an angle grinder of some sort, but then I have easy access to those, and not a lot of spare change.
