  1. Nice looking magnifier. For those budget minded folks that like a longer reaching red dot, I added a Brunton Echo monochular sight behind my Aimpoint on my AR with one of those quick release single rail mounts. It was a nice 25.00 add on that extended my shorty M4 red dot to respectable 100 yard shots. It's a bit of a jerry rig, but damn sure works nice. I couldn't seeing spending 2 to 4 hundred bucks on a mag lens for a red dot unless we are talking high end military. This one gives adjustable zoom at an economy price. http://www.opticsplanet.net/brunton-7x18-e...cket-scope.html
  2. Thanks for the input guys. I did get my Dinzag bullet guide today, and now have to build up some courage to put a drill bit to my gun. Funny thing is, my solder gun plastic welding job on a Promag plastic mag runs 100%. Now it's the chicken and the egg, do you fix the gun to accept the mag, or fix the mag to accept the gun. I actually like my Saiga the way it is right now since it is 10 pounds lighter with a plastic mag even than my AKs. I managed to put metal furniture, nice folding stocks, optics, do-dads, tooth brushes, and coffee makers on my AKs, and throw a 40 round com-block magazi
  3. wideners has a ton of Baurnal for cheaper. http://wideners.com/index.cfm I haven't seen any issues getting 7.62x39
  4. Wow - my wife would be pretty PO'd if I ran a warm bathtub and dumped dish washer soap and a dirty gun into the jaccuzi twice a week. I'd have a lot of splainin to do. Sounds a little bit of overkill to me. I have shot some WD-40 down the tube every few hundred rounds and run a few patches through and that's about it. My 4 Saiga's appear to be in good shape.
  5. So i've seen a few posts on how to do a few types of bullet guides, but they came from professional gunsmiths or qualified metal workers who know how to customize these things in a weekend project. Is there any bolt on bullet guide for the not so mechanically inclined?
  6. Yes. There is windage and elevation adjustments for red dot sights. I actually find it easier to sight in with red dots, than iron sights. I've had good luck with the Bushnell Holosight. Shot 5" standing groups with wolf today at 100 meters. 3" at 50 meters. I have a railway C-MORE on my Siaga 12 and i'd highly recommend those also. You can get them used for under 200, and new they might be over, not sure. They are bullet proof sights - have them on 4 different platforms now and 1000s of rounds through each without a blip. Nice optic.
  7. I just got a Saiga 7.62x39 after having Saiga-12s for years. I got all my romanian and bulgarian AK mags to fit, but the rounds still dive right under the chamber throat. I noticed that the rim on the front of the standard AK mag is cut out lower whereas the factory mags are level in front with sides of the front lips. I got a promag and did some plastic forming to move the cutout in the front lip up closer to the edge front lips of the mag. I ran about 100 rounds through it , and had 3 low divers. I have it close, but still not where you would want an AK. Is the bullet ramp the only ro
  8. Thanks Bob! better than words. I'll let you know how it turns out. Now all I have to do is convince my neighbor he needs his done first.
  9. Has anyone tried to "form" a bullet ramp from some JB Weld or something and buff it out a bit? Would that work, or is my inherent lack of gunsmithing and tools just getting the best of me? 10. Not sure what his writeup entails, but all ya gotta do is flatten out these ribs on both sides. Takes 5 minutes. thanks - one on order. Danzig's writeup is here: http://www.dinzagarms.com/downloads/223_mag_options.pdf found some 35rd Galil orlites for 25 bucks, which seemed like a decent rate, but they slam you for shipping, so perhaps it's a wash (like 9 bucks??) http://www.floridagunworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?
  11. I found Danzig's writeup on the mods it takes to fit a galil 223 mag. Has anyone actually tried this? How difficult is it to do, and did you use sand paper, dremel, file, what tool? It would suck to scrap a 30-60 dollar mag with some garage mods to it not properly done.
  12. So do most AK74 magazines work without modifications, or do most not work without mods to the gun or mag?? Where do you get the promag versions that do fit? thanks (223 Saiga newbie) Like - would these work without gunsmithing? http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/ma...roducts_id/2036
  13. I've owned 14 of these that eventually ended up looking like that. 1) the battery was dead when you purchased it on the long trip from Chinese port 2) it is broken from recoil 3) the high level of Chinese quality control let that one "slip through" Eotech Aimpoint Doctor C-More when you purchase the next two or three of those and they break, you would still have a working optic from the list above and have spent the same money (if you didn't waste ammo zeroing that chinese site)
  14. 100 rounds isn't much of a break in for some S-12s. I'd run another few boxes of high brass through it on #1 setting. If you get feed issues, try #2 with the same ammo. Just don't run magnum rounds or slugs on #2. Don't lube the piston or gas areas, just clean and dry. AKs don't generally like lube in these areas as they just collect blow back powders and paste up. Try a few mags of different ammo and find out what runs well without dickering with the gas setting. Then buy some more of the good ammo. And - WELCOME to the fun! These take a few hours of learning and tinkering, an
  15. I have a box full of optics defeated by the S-12. Even a Kobra first gen that slammed the batteries back too many times (could be a 25.00 fix, but i was done fixing failed optics). I have BSA, Kobra, Harris, Barska, Tasco, and a few other chinese stampings on different sights. I have strapped a C-MORE to the barrel and have blasted just shy of a thousand rounds of in general high brass down the tube, with not a flicker. I have some of these on 1911 race guns that have > 8K rounds them also. very sturdy. If you get the "railway" version, it can hook up to any picattiny rail setup. Oth
  16. Every one of these sloppy tolerance gas systems are different. Many shoot low brass on #1 out of the box. Some can barely do it with gas ports opened or a couple hundred or more blasts down the pipe. There is a huge variation in gas and pressures from all the different bird shot ammo choices out there. Nearly every one has a different peak and dwell time to them with different powders and shot weight, wad styles, etc. It pays to spend some time dinking around with a box of 25 low brass rounds of many variations and find which of the 3 or so actually cycle your Saiga on #1 setting. saves

  18. Me too! Yay All these "custom" Saiga 12 forearms are getting better and looking pretty good. I'm curious as to who has actually got some variant of the 800 AR front forends to fit an S-12 with some minor dremel or spreading work. Most likely of the fast install two part versions where you bolt the top rail part to a lower tri-rail part. Is every one of these on the market really just too small to fit?
  19. Cobra76two has something up his sleeve.... ummm, along with magwells and LRBHO.... we have all been reading these sorts of things for well over twelve months, if not twenty-four months. Yet... I do so enjoy keeping all these dreams alive! Fortunately, Cobra has a lot of sleeves... Just last weekend I saw on one of the outdoor shooting cable channels a 3-gun special. One guy had a kick-ass Saiga 12, and one had a SPAS-12 that he built a welded frankenmag for that I think held 12 rounds???? They claimed that one magazine for the mag was either 600 or 800 bucks and
  20. I didn't totally want to stir the drum verses double sticks controversy. The ONLY thing I see the double box mag advantage here is PRICE, which is vapormag at this point. 20 rounds of 00 buck probably weigh less than 20 rounds of 00 buck in a single round drum considering there is more plastic and metal in two boxes than in a drum (I think). 14 months from now when the pre-orders start on the first "production batch" this thread might come up again. I AGP is selling a single mag for 60 bucks after the investment they had in equipment and labor getting them to work. I'm not quite sure t
  21. Yeah, that would be the #1 failure mode of a mag. The last time we heard "Houston - we have a problem - should have them up and running in a few weeks, we saw molds on ebay for sale months later, and was it nearly a year that AGP worked all their bugs out? Sounds optimistic to me. Also, 20 rounds of high brass are not light. I like the box mags due to them being manageable and not addding THAT much weight to this tank. I don't think you'll see too many folks hulking around their drums in the woods or even in their closet for HD for that matter. Not sure I like the idea of th
  22. Local Po dunk bait store,They proably bought them 5 years ago and have'nt kept up on ammo prices, once I get some cash rolling in I'll go buy all they have......Being Laid off sucks! Nice groups overall for that optic setup. Especially that slugger group. They have been the most consistent slug up to 75 yards out of my Saiga. Even the pussy low recoil are tight, just a couple inches lower than the standard dram slugger loads. great ammo for these smoothbores. You have to test some of the Wolf with that same setup for a comparison. I found they are tight also and low recoil. Gener
  23. Used Dinzag sites and was prone with a 5 rounder. I wasn't using sandbags or really trying for a tight group. It was a bit of a shock when I recovered the target. I may try my 4X PSL scope on it and a good rest to see If I can o better. ETA: I'm also going to tinker with Wallyrounds and the Choke to see how tight I can pattern. What slugs were you using? Its been my pet projest as of late.. I've always liked Wolf slugs in my Saiga also. I used to buy them for cheap plinker slugs and they are very tame on recoil. It didn't take long to figure out they were nearly a
  24. It was this one, but I paid around 30.00 for it. Not sure why this price is so high. It has not broken and doesn't move so thus far it is worth at least what I paid for it. It is a low mount. http://www.dsarms.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CAASGR1
