ammo deal at Cabelas

Recommended Posts

This is Wolf Black Box:

Wolf 7.62x39 122gr. FMJ currently on sale for $255 per 1000 with two ammo boxes (love those things). Not only that, but shipping is only $5 for orders over $150...good through 8/24. Seems like the deal to beat right now.

Ordered mine over the weekend and got 'em this morning. Cabelas is quick.

Seem that all of the vendors are getting their hearts right now. A good time for all who still have jobs to stock up and build up your inventory. But Dang, it would be bad if you were to shoot up a couple thousand rounds that you just ordered and not have any to count if the "ammo census police" came 'round taking inventory! LOL

Thats getting back a little more towards a decent price.

I'm hoping others will do as I am and keep holding out for a return back down to the $200 or less price range.

Not directing this at any particular person(s) but we need to resist the urge to brag or be happy? about new lower prices that are compared to the greedy, price gouging levels they were at a few months ago. Instead, just compare the alleged new "lower" price to the realistic prices that we had before this mania struck.

If people resume buying the large quantities at these still too high IMO prices then the companies will have absolutely no reason to continue lowering it back closer to where it was (and really should be IMO).

Please STOP buying the large quantities :cryss: Just get enough now for practice so that simply looking at their sales numbers will convince these capitalist pigs ;)

Cheers

I hear you. I just bought the 500rds deal with one dry box, from Cabelas. I got it yesterday. My rifle just shipped from Centerfire Systems, and is due to arrive at my FFL today. :) I will just have enough ammo to try it out and check for proper function, then break the rifle in after I convert it.

I was out of ammo and had 1000 in the mail from ammoman, so I had to buy at a local gun shop on my way to the range.. Fricken $9.50 a box (20) for Silver Bear!!! I also wanted another pol mag, so I asked what they charged for a SureFire 10 round (cali), and they wanted $50 bucks for it!! The small local vendors who are still gouging are going to pay big time in business loss when prices are finally back to normal (which it seems they are moving toward quickly)... I for one am going to remember it.

Harv, you are such a downer. Here I was enjoying my weekend and thinking about how lucky I am to have some ammo, and then I see your post.

Some points:

1) I don't remember what prices used to be for Wolf; hafta take your word for it. Never shot the stuff. Reloaded instead. I've got boxes of 1000 primers that I paid $11.50 for...way back when. That was normal then, we'll never see it again. Lucky to find primers at all, now. We may never see Wolf under $.20 a round again either.

2) No lefty here. I want the 'capitalist pigs' to survive. Cabelas especially. This isn't just about me. If you're a lefty that would like to impose socialism, then I'm sure you'd prefer to face empty guns.

3) We don't know when the zombies will invade. If they invade before prices drop, then we'll be sitting around with empty guns. That makes no sense....unless you're a zombie.

Y'all have a nice weekend, Harv. And, when it comes to the ammo, don't be like the five foolish virgins in the Bible. For all we know, they were just waiting for the price of oil to come down.

Bob

Before the sky fell, Wolf was $79-$89 per 1000 rd case. Even at that price I wouldn't buy it because I felt it was junk. I bought tons of SA ammo for $125 a thou. GARY N4KVE

right now every vendor that stocks wolf and the other russian brands have it in stock. If they can all keep it in stock, then we just wait for them to start undercutting each other. The panic buying is over for now, but if something sets it off again we may have to start all over.

I still haven't seen 9mm.

Aimsurplus has had Russian made 9mm for $9.95 per 50 round box for at least a month now

I'm kind of wary off firing Wolf and other Russian made ammo in my Walther PPS and 9mm carbine. With the Saiga, no problem. Does anyone have any thoughts on the ability of other weapons to digest this stuff?

My Glock 26 shoots the Brown Bear just fine. I'll be trying out the Wolf my next time out.

I miss the days of buying ammo cheap. Add from 2001

You are absolutely correct sir, let them sit on it for a while. When their bills start going uppaid, it will come down. Buy only what you need.

 Damn! My math skills failed me there! Thanks!

But, still too high. <_<

haha.. been there, done that. I just paid 259 at ammoman for 1000 of military classic, and that was one of the best deals I could find anyway, so I think with todays prices this is a pretty good deal.. Far from the $69 pr. 1000 of yesteryear though.

The conventional wisdom of economics would infer that these prices will never come back down to the $70 level. This is given downward inflexibility, natural steady inflation + whatever accelerated inflation is headed our way if any, and the disorganization of consumers (that is, the unlikelihood of cooperation effort to artificially reduce demand).

So, I ask with all legitimate curiosity, what makes you guys think otherwise?

First, it is all artificially high. There is no reason that it should be this high. I bought 7.62x39 at $160/M, just last year. The cost of manufacture and materials has not risen that dramatically. Also, a lot of new folks have been recently attracted to firearms, many of them will not stay with us, at least as active shooters. There will be a surplus of ammo on the market and they have to sell it to someone, that is how they pay their bills.

Will we see $89 a thousand again? Most likely not. But it will come down, I have seen all of this before ... I sold off a grocery bad of spare Glock 21 mags for $100 each to a vendor. How much will you give me for one today?

Sounds like an ammo bubble...makes sense. Hope you're right, too! I haven't been shooting Saigas long enough to remember prices that low.

What kind of 9mm carbine do you have? A 9mm AR?

My 9mm AR gobbles up steel cased ammo (Brown Bear, specifically) and shits the empties like it is its job. It actually has never been fed brass cased ammo, and I intend to keep it that way.

I have a Hi Point 995 and a Kel Tec Sub 2000. One of these is going to be sold soon though.

Heh Im getting rid of my 9mm stock just decided to sell all my 9mm guns since I never really liked the round preferring 40sw for the carbine and 45ACP for the pistols. Now 9mm seems to be everywhere.

Going to keep my x39, 308, and 7.62x54R rifles and ammo supplies, sell the rest just no reason to keep that many different calibers now that DC has its hands full with problems other than gun control. Using the funds to buy reloading gear and a spare S308.

Hunting with the 308 is just perfect even though I had to buy a 5rd mag, with the SB soft point round it takes boar down like a cannon with only marginal damage to meat. Damn I love that rifle.
