Darko 42
Hello Guys and Gals! I've been lurking for quite some time, learning all I can about the S12, what it will need, and how to stay legal. Lots of great information, and great community as well. I've been in the market for my first shotgun for a couple months now, and although I have several different pistols that I carry, I want something better suited for home defense, sporting, and apocalyptic zombie hoardes. I plan on picking up an S12 within the next couple weeks and have big plans for it. I'm fairly nervous about the possible dreaded "Vodka Special", but hopefully you all will be able to walk me through it. My initial project will be immediately converting it. It seems that the Tromix DIY is the way to go, but I'm open to other suggestions. Then will come the drilling of the gas ports, maybe a polish in there... actually I'm a little nervous about that now. But all this to say hello, my name is Darko and thanks for this wonderful little place and all its Saiga know-how!
Fumes 84
Welcome, If you've been doing your homework you won't pick a vodka special because you'll know what to look for and before you go tearing into your new gun shoot it first so you know what worked and what didn't when you start to convert it. Also I'd start with the simple things like polishing before I'd rip the block off. I did some minor things like that and mine runs really good. I'm still super noob here myself but all the info is here just take the time to read it ,good luck.
Mullet Man 2,114
I've got a Tromix DIY guard and a SAW grip for sale, PM me if you're interested. Shameless plug on my part. Welcome to the site. There arent any issues that an S12 will have, that cant be fixed or remedied with all the great help on this site! My suggestion is to read read and read some more before placing hard earned money into parts you might not be satisfied with. You might not need to do any work to the gas ports. Best bet is to take it out and put it thru its paces first before restoring it. Dont forget to use the adjustable gas system. Besides, if you buy new, it will be under warranty for any repairs and if they're needed best to get them out of the way before throwing money at it.
EJ45 38
Just having converted my first S12 Id suggest you take the time to put a lot of rounds through it (before converting) to be sure you have a functioning gun. Its a great gun and there is a lot of great info to be found here as you work through your project.

There's only one Armory around here that sells S12s, and they want $700 and won't come down on the price at all... I suppose I could make a trip out to Cadiz, but that's a few hours drive... nonethless, thanks for the advice and the welcome. Good stuff I've got a Tromix DIY guard and a SAW grip for sale, PM me if you're interested. Shameless plug on my part. Welcome to the site. I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of your avatar... hahaha I might be interested. I will heed yalls advice and shoot the gun a bunch. I'm glad you guys said something because knowing me, I would have had that thing torn apart after the first FTE...
EJ45 38
I ordered mine online from CSS ... it was a good price and was here in just a few days, I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again. You just need someone with an FFL that would do the transfer for you.
Paulyski 2,227
If you should get a problem gun, (or mags for that matter,) they're easily fixed, just read a bit & post detailed descriptions of the issues. There's only so much that can go wrong with them. My personal gun wouldn't cycle for crap. Even with 3"magnum on gas setting 1. Now it runs as good as my most dependable guns, even on the weak stuff. HINT; Go out & shoot it while alone the first time. That way your friends don't give you shit about paying more than the price of an 870 if it won't shoot eject & feed 3 rounds in a row. Yeah, it was kinda embarrassing the firs time I took mine out when I first got it.

Here is some inspiring Saiga 12 porn for ya.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejy58DCoYKE that's killer. it will probably be a while before mine will be shooting like that (unless I'm extremely lucky out of the box). I'm just lucky to have the spare coin to buy one in the first place!
Darko 42
that was 100 rounds in a minute! with reload time! holy crap. was that a full auto LEO S12, or was he manually firing that???
Roan 19
that was 100 rounds in a minute! with reload time! holy crap. was that a full auto LEO S12, or was he manually firing that??? He was manually firing that, though the second two drums he was bump firing it. Just relax. This isn't a massive, complicated event if you take things slow and easy. Take things in stages, reacting to what is rather than what might be. First step is to pick up the S12. Then you take it out to the range with a collection of buck, bird, and slugs. See what fires and what does. If you have problems running any of it, pick up a new gas puck/plug. If that does help, send it in for warranty work. After you have run a few hundred rounds through it reliably, then start the conversion. Watch all the videos before hand a few times so you know what to expect. You'd be amazed how simple this weapon really is. You'll have it fully converted and awesome before you know it.

Paulyski 2,227
I will. I'd do it sooner, but where I shoot is snow covered or muddy in the winter & mountainous, so that wouldn't be one of those days I'd want to remember. One's an actress (the girl in my sig line), & the other's a girly-girl type too, so tromping through the mud & snow in knee-highs & fishnets would be too hard of a sell I think. It'd be cool though. But, nahhh... I'm not nearly cool enough to be able to sell them on that one!

It almost seems like a SOT would be worth the effort, expense, and bookkeeping.... just to have a full auto S12

She was wearing boots, a semi-casual jacket, a longer skirt & leggings. Yeah, cute as all hell, but still a bit more cloth. I'm convincing at times, but getting her to do it in fishnets & a tied off blouse would be a feat that I don't think I could pull off. If I said it wasn't a good idea, she would disappear & reappear in a snowsuit. So would the other. I swear... I'm like Jack Tripper with guns here. If they were random bimbos, that may be one thing, but that's just not the situation. Then again, I haven't had much luck using the whole "Hey? Why don't you dress like a whore & go with me up into the secluded woods with this-here combat 12 gauge?" line in the past, even on random bimbos.
