  1. I just finished the Saiga to metric FAL adapter, and It works great! All that's left is to make it pretty and turn it over to Nathan at Magnolia to make it. I ran 60 rounds (3 FAL mags) through it today and never a hiccup! I'll finish the final prototype tomorrow or Tuesday along with the drawings, then send them to Nathan. You will have to get in touch with Nathan after Tuesday to find out an ETA and price, but the important thing is it works, $8 20 rd mags for the .308....HOT DAMN!!!
  2. Nice rack! I hunt with mine, but haven't seen anything while having it this year.
  3. First, Welcome to the site. As far as prices go, that's not bad. They have been steadly going up, and I'm not sure if the prices will ever come down before Jan 20 because of the fate of the dollar. If you want one in the next 3-5 years, get it now.
  4. I have some of the unfinished one, It looks about the same, I just did the release differently. I'm in China Grove NC. Here's your pics
  5. Nathan of Magnolia and I are working on this together, so you know when the design is final, he will make a great product. I found some FAL mags for 7.99 on a website. I'll look again and post the link. I bought 3 from the surplus store for 8 bucks ea. to make the build.
  6. Ok guys, The G3 can be made to work, but it maybe more modifying than you will want to do. HOWEVER, the FAL mags will work (about 8 bucks), so it's not going to be quite as cheap but, I think still a good value. I hope to have some even better news for you in a week or so. This design is gonna be sweet! And Yes, I am listening to the voices in my head! But only because so far, they're right!
  7. There can only be a limited number for sale at this time. I am working on deals to mass produce the product. When this happens, this will change to a paid ad and the price may change. Right now I am an individual and can only make so many, and am doing it mostly for the love of shooters, as the time of making them and the cost of materials is limited and about breaks even. Price is $80.00 + shipping. Pics and discription are in the listed thread. I didn't double post to conserve bandwidth. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=32081
  8. I can do the DPMS .308 by the end of next week, barring outside interfearence. I was just looking for the cheapest mag that was reliable and would fit in the magwell. The G3's are doable, but not without more extensive work, FALs at $7.99 were my second choice, but I will have to see if they fit without altering the basic gun. The DPMS is probably a mil spec AR10, which I can do now. The M-14 at $15.00 at 44mags is another possibility. I am researching mags for reliability now, that's why the G3 came up. Any AR type would be easy as it would be the same as the .223 that I have built and shown
  9. I haven't cleaned mine yet and shoot Silver Bear or Golden Tiger. It's had about 1500 rnds so far and no visible wear.
  10. Would anyone be interested in an adapter to be able to use both factory mags and G3 or AR 10 mags? AR 10 could be finished sooner, but because of the price of G3, it might be worth the wait. What do you guys think?
  11. Red Jacket's is a permanent receiver mod, not an adapter: "This is not a adapter or a "drop-in" but rather a entirely new way to feed your ZK." Magnolia Arms is taking pre-orders for an adapter based loosely on the Galil's that will require small modifications to the trunnion but will still allow you to use whatever other AK-style mags you want. I never claimed it wasn't permanent. It is a great way to get an AK to use AR mags. Why would he ever want to change it back anyway. Personal preference? Being able to use factory mags for the range, but A
  12. Here is my latest. I have a POSP scope for it but haven't painted the mount yet, so it's not on it. I do have my designed AR adapter on it. I ran 200 rds through it today before the rain started. I like a lot!!! Adapter worked flawlessly. It does add about a pound to the rifle as it's made out of steel, but it's right index finger release at the trigger guard drops the mags in a hurry. It just snaps on and off so you can use the origional mags if you want, but I bought 30-30 rnd AR mags at the surplus store for $5 ea, so I won't take it off. They will be available shortly for around $80 ea. if
  13. I don't think the piston is interchangeable, but I've never tried. Change your mags to G3 or AR10. They're cheaper and compliant with the adapter.
  14. Nice job with the wood! looks good.
  15. If you convert it to AR mags, you don't need a bullet guide. It won't hurt if you have one, but it will work just fine without one.
  16. Gunbroker has some that I saw last night. 325.00 and up.
  17. It would save you money on mags if you converted the .308 and the .223. Saiga Surefire mags are 3x the price of AR and even more than 3x for the .308. Other than that, you're limited to what you can do. Personally, I would rather have capacity and mags than any of the other features. After all, they shoot the same.
  18. You are definitely not a prude, Sir - you absolutely want to remain compliant with all federal, State & local laws! You can add US-made parts to foreign mags to increase your parts count. I make my own (obviously US-made) floor plates and modify my own US-made Magpul followers for my Galil Orlites (links available). Two US-made parts. Getting your compliance parts count up by adding mag parts can be very easy & inexpensive. But you do not want to compromise your firearm by going with an unreliable ammunition feed system - which is what I have heard about Promag, unfortunately.
  19. Convert it to AR mags. They're cheap and availible anywhere, no bullet guide required.
  20. Being the owner of two Savage rifles (one .223 heavy barrel bought new, the other a .30-06 bought for about the price of a used 10-22, bought used), I would agree. The .223 likes Federal AE 50 gr hollow points, and the .30-06 for some reason likes match ammo designed for M1 Garands. You want to put a hole in something small, at long range, on a budget, there's absolutely nothing better than a Savage bolt action. Just try different loads, until you find what it likes, and then you're sittin' pretty... Just my opinion... Precision shots at 500 yards is bolt action territory. Sa
  21. You will need a hammer, a dremel tool, screw driver, small socket set and a cool head. I did mine with out any directions. You might want to get a Tromix do it your self trigger guard from Tromix. Well, I have all those tools, so I guess I'm good. I plan on trying this conversion. I assembled my AR lower, so I guess I might as well give this a try. I should get a trigger guard too, I think. Thanks guys, Chris If you put together an AR lower, you shouldn't have any trouble doing a conversion. It's much easier. Just make sure you have GOOD drill bits. I broke 3
  22. I'm not sure. The Silver Bear works great and is not any dirtier than anything else I've shot. But after 1k rounds or so, it's all dirty.
  23. It depends on how you have your Saiga set up on faster reloading. I can cycle mine within .5 seconds of my AR, same three mag setup.
  24. Dad gummit Noah! I wish you would have told me you wanted to sell it.
  25. Hmmm...well that's all about pistol ammo. I was hoping for something along the lines of this: I can't give you hard data, but I deer hunt with Silver Bear in 7.62x39 hollowpoints and I've brought down every one I've shot with one round. The biggest weighing in at 260 lbs. All of them have dropped like rocks! Soft points would probably work just as well though.
