About a year ago our buddy Dodgeturbointerceptor was deployed in Iraq and we got together and sent a Saiga-12 Tee shirt around from member to member (those that spoke up and were interested) and we signed our SNs and / or autographs on it, then shipped it on to the next person in line. This care package was supposed to eventually be delivered to him in Iraq or back here in the states, if we could not nail down his exact location over there in the sandbox. Members were encouraged to sign the shirt (which was bought new with the Saiga-12 name on it) and include any other knick knacks they wanted, and send it on to the next member on the list.

Well...I got it first. I signed it and I sent it to Gaddis if I remember correctly. I do remember it was him now, because we joked around some that I might send some kind of sick shit along with it to Gaddis because we all know he could appreciate that.

I believe it was GOB who was supposed to get it after Gaddis.

Would the rest of you guys who were in on that, or might remember where the thread is where we discussed it, please chime in here and lets try and determine where that package ended up please? I talked to him this morning and finally remembered again to ask him if he got it and he didn't know wtf I was talking about....

From what I can remember, it was supposed to get back to the guy who bought the shirt originally, and he was supposed to send it to Timmy.

Anyone remember who that member was or who was the last to get the package?

I hope there's not some thief running around wearing a shirt with all our names on it somewhere. Or worse than that, some dune coon over there with a kickass Saiga-12 shirt autographed by the regulars and possibly a box of cool shit.

Good question Cobra,

I remember signing up for that, and kept expecting it to one day get to me. But nothing ever did. I had assumed the idea died of neglect.....which was uncool as well!

who actually got to sign it?

Hello

I recall kickin' down a few bucks toward the effort. I was expecting to have heard more about it after that, but when I didn't, I reckoned I'd just write it off, rather than make a stink about it.....Never saw the shirt.

Hey guys, been gone a few days, the &^%$%$^# BGE power co, blew up my modem, just got back on line. Dodge's shirt made it by here, we signed it (me and momma) and sent it along. As I remember it took a while to get the next address to send it to. Who was it that was co-ordinating that? I believe there were at least 2 shirts circulating, where did they get to?????

GOB is there any way you can figure out who y'all sent it too next? If so maybe we can work our way down the line.

I will go back and comb thru my 5,000 plus messages in my inbox :cryss:

and try to see if I can find the PMs I exchanged with whoever it was who was supposed to be spearheading the whole thing. He's the one who bought the shirt from that place that made up all the "Team Saiga" gear. I couldn't remember what that was called while ago.

Can someone help me with an approximate date as to when all this happened at least?

Cobra,

I was one of those who wanted to sign in on that but the shirt never got here to me. Always wondered what happened to it and to the whole thing.

I sent a package to a friend of my son's and he never got it because he come home the same time it went over there.

But it seems not everyone got to sign it so I think something strange is going on here. I surely hope not. Thanks for your service to this great country!!

Hello, Bvamp

I received the message Oct. 26, 2006 and submitted a PayPal payment on the 29th. So, it's been quite a while. Certainly long enough for the shirt to have "made the rounds", one would think.....

Respectfully posted,

where did it go from you GOB? do you have record? heck this was last year, wasnt it, Cobra?

Thanks for the dates GOB and Guido2.

I looked WAY back in my mailbox and managed to find the PMs between myself and G-Rem.

This is the first one he sent me when he first had the idea to try and put something together....

Just An Idea...

Cobra,

As the title of this message states- this is just an idea floating around in my noggin. It is my understanding that dodgeturbointerceptor is being deployed to ??? sometime in the near future. What do you think of getting the forum together and picking up something for him to use overseas ( thinking Camelback, fancy knife, maybe a nice piece of body armor etc)? This would require someone who knows him (I don't) to find out what he needs/could use and find out when he's going away (he posted on July 24 that it was about two months away so it may already be too late). Any thoughts? criticisms? If you know anyone on the board who is a close friend of his could you pass this on to them or give me their name. I am also sending this message to Dinzag, Bvamp, Indy and other mods/board fixtures.

Peace

Greg

My reply...

Thanks Greg I'll give it some thought...He's actually distantly related to my own family back in Ireland. I do know he's always getting new stuff and prolly has about everything a soldier is allowed to carry with him already and top of the line stuff at that. This is a very noble thing you're doing and he will appreciate it, no matter what, just for the effort. I'll see what I can come up with. One thing comes to mind...I don't know if he ever got any of that Team Saiga wear that is still for sale. If we got him a shirt we could mail it around and get some of the older members and more distinguished members to sign it and send it to the next guy?Do they let you wear anything besides army clothes when you're overseas?

Thanks,

Shannon

His second PM to me...

Excellent dude! Any stuff you could think up would be great (I like the Team SAIGA stuff idea). However, Dinzag pm'ed that he is already gone. Do you have any way of getting hold of his APO/FPO info? We could send him a package in theater.

Question 1: should we A. post this on forum-get bigger response but tips him off

or B. keep small (I pm'ed maybe 15 guys total) and suprise?

Question 2: Would you be willing to mastermind this?

Couple of reasons- I'm lazy, have poor organizational skills and am computer semiliterate (at this point in this message I've been typing for 15 minutes or so).

I don't have much experience with paypal (if we go that route).

I post very seldom (50 in 3 years), therefore have little or no name recognition/trust amongst the board. If it's put up on the open forum, it may generate a greater response if posted by someone who is well known and respected - mods or bigger sellers(BRG3 or Jeric).

Question 2A: If not, can you recommend anyone who would be up to the task?

Not looking to duck the responsibilty (well maybe a little) but would rather see it go off well.

As to them being allowed to wear non-issue stuff, I believe so (within limits). My dept.(fire) has sent over care packages in the past and gotten a couple of responses back with pictures of guys wearing our t-shirts.

BTW- I like this board more and more- 15 pm's =7 pos responses 0 neg

Thanks

Greg

ME...

1. I would say a surprise would be better.

2. I guess I could get the ball rolling.

If I order the shirt and sign it, then send it on to the next guy in line he can do the same and so on...

Send me the list of names you have contacted already and let me do some emailing. I will also try and get up with his wife and see if I can find out any details on his schedule. I know a couple other members who have met him and they might know something.

Shannon

G-Rem...

Alrighty-surprise then. I sent out about 15 pms(mods, 1000+ posters, names I see often in the sections I frequent)- should I send out another round to the next "tier"? Positive is that it gets more guys on board, negative is T-shirt could spent the next six months mailing across the country. Also, if I sent out another round, I would want to include a more definitve account of what we're doing, so I will wait until we've figured that out.

As to the t-shirt, its been ordered. Actually they've been ordered. I got one white "collar" style with cyrilic SAIGA for the boys to sign and a sleeveless olive drab "pump this" style that he could probably wear under his bdus. As soon as I get them, I'll send the sig one off to you to start the rounds.

I sent pms to Wolverine, Bvamp, Fullchoke, Indy, Ronswin, Kysoldier, Scoutjoe, BobAsh, G O B, Dinzag, DaGroaner, Gaddis, Epsylum, Inperidel, BattlerifleG3 and pistonring8(bold names havent responded as yet.

As for coordinating everything- don't worry about it. I suppose I should get off my ass and do some work (I hear it builds character).

Thanks

Greg

I sent a friend of my son's, Fernando, a 'care package' a ways back and he never got it because he was state bound at the time. I don't think anyone that isn't deployed got it. If it did go overseas, someone is very happy to get it.

G-Rem...

Shannon,

I've got the t-shirt and am ready to send it to you. Need your addy. Also, did you have any luck getting dodges APO? I'm also sending a PM to all the guys who responded affirmatively to my orig. idea (10 total). I will also send out a PM to another batch of guys w/in a few days. The first response I get with an address will be the one for you to send to next. The text of the PM will be the following:

Gentlemen,

This is a "mass" PM being sent to everyone who tentatively agreed to sending dodgeturbointerceptor a care package overseas. Here is the plan. I'm sending a t-shirt to cobra762 to sign. He in turn will send it to someone who will sign it and send it on, etc until everyone has done so and it gets back to me. I'll throw it in the carepackage and send it off. As of right now, the care package will include the standard toiletry and personal care items commonly requested by troops overseas plus any items we can think of that he might appreciate. I will send a complete list (and a picture or two if I can figure out how to do it) to everyone when the package is ready to send. I am asking each of you to kick in $5 per man.

Here is the deal. PM me with your address. If you send me your address you are agreeing to do two things:

1. Send me $5 via paypal or check/MO-if you are worried about this being a scam, then wait until you've received the t-shirt.

2. Sign the shirt and mail it to the next guy promptly. (this includes paying the shipping to the next person).

If you want to include a letter or card to dodge just throw it in with the shirt when you pass it on. If you don't want to sign the shirt but want to send hima card, mail it to me. If you think of anything he could use, let me know. If you want to send him a specific item, mail it to me at the address below and I'll put it in. I also welcome your input as to the advisability of smuggling him booze or nekkid pictures.

As of now there are 11 members on board. I am going to send out a PM to another bunch of guys. If I collect more than I lay out I will donate the remainder to the forum. If you disagree with this let me know.

If you have any questions, comments or complaints, please drop me a PM or email. BTW dodge does not know about this and we would like to keep it that way.

Thanks

That's all I can find right now.

Hopefully we can do some detective work from that info and find out something.

I have already sent G-Rem a PM but don't know if he will get it because he hasn't been around here in over a year.

I do have his address though, and his email so hopefully that will turn up something Dodge.

I'm tryin cuz!

I'll be honest. I'm still wow'ed that You guys were so thoughtful!

You're not just "Gun-Nuts"!

You bunch'a softies! LOL

Seriously. Thanks for the support though. Quite the group here in the forum. Hell. If You guys no anyone over yonder. I'm in for sending something to em.

As far as the items floating around. It really isn't like it was in OIF 1 in 2003. Where mail was in containers just waiting for a unit that was near it to hear about it. There are FOB's. And people get stuff regularily there now. If It was sent when I was re-deploying home. I still would have had it forwarded here. I got a box sent to me on Dec 20th, 2007( even though I told my dad to wait) It got to me here at the unit post office. APO AE stamps and all 3 weeks later.

I don't know how You all got my APO AP. But I have a feeling that it wasn't sent. Maybe due to lack of an address to send it to.

Was it sent to my old home address in Minnesota, or my new base housing in Texas? I just don't remember anyone from the forum having my APO.

List found!!! I Finally deciphered my "random access filing system". in an old E-mail folder labled S-12. The next name on the list was Mickporno. I forwared the list to Cobra, didn't want to post it on the open forum as it has everyone's home address on it.

Those who signed it before me were: Gaddis, DaGroaner,KySoldier, ME and I sent it on to Mickporno. From there it was to go to:Donald Stiles,Aethelbert,Freedfall,Jason Vaughan,Blenderwizard,AtlasX. In that order.

Allso there was another shirt making the western rounds. I have no more information on that one, except that Greg (G Rem) said one existed.

Shit, I'd at least hope to get a good knife out of the deal this time, Dodge.

I'd be willing to pony up again. Maybe send donations to someone trusted on the board or insist that delivery track (or whatever TF it's called? ) is used this mailing cycle. :chris:

What's the company out there I get the catalog from all the time (Brigade Quartrmaster's, I think?) who has the knife deal right now for sandbox troops?

BTW - yeah, thanks for your service, Dodge! :super:
