I see to many posts with people asking things like "whats a conversion?." It gets old reading the same questions, seeing the same things that have already been asked and answered. Especailly those that are posted all over the forum.. Read and search the forum and even google it before you start a new topic. +1 since the BIG ATF scare I have noticed alot on newbies they are all asking the same questions, most that were answered years ago nothing a little searching or just surfing the site would not answer for them. Its amazing how a little scare can have these guys go on the auction sites drive prices up then join here and say "Shouldn't my gun work correctly right out of the box I can't beleive I have to pay someone to fix it" IMO they should not be on this site and should not have ever bought a saiga. I do think it's good idea to have at least one Forum in which anyone can say anything provided it doesn't put the website or anyone in any kind of legal or physical peril... gives the shit-wads and a-holes a place to post their crap. The mods are much better and cooler. But that is a the double edged sword we have to deal with. Their coolness also gives the "Circle Jerk Crew" more sway around here. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing & many have signed the line & laid down their lives to protect it. But there are some things to consider, such as the group dynamics. It must be kept in mind that 1/2 the people here spent their childhoods under constant threat of nuclear armageddon. It was VERY REAL, almost happened in the late 60's & the 2 countries (USSR & USA) had people standing watch 24/7 with their finger resting on the button. This leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. Pops spent a good part of his young adulthood playing cat & mouse with the soviets in a sub with a shitload of Nukes. His boat was one of the pieces in this real life game of chess & there's lots of former players on this board. Attacking everything their lives have stood for isn't going to lead to harmony. Idealisim's great & to be expected. Especially from the youth who never had to live through those times or those who never had to deal with the reality of a truly totalitarian system. To constantly force that which goes against every ideal that a man has fought for & many have died for down a bunch of people's throats is not unlike running around through south central LA waving a noose & screaming n****r n****r n****r. Are we free to do it? Yes. Is it unwise? Yes. But also keep in mind, although one's free to do such an inconsiderate & foolish thing, they may very well be guilty of disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, or incitement & rightly so. Keep in mind, a good deal of members here had the welcome home party of being called baby-killers & being spat upon when they came back from Nam right after holding their best friend in their arms as he died fighting along side them. They have a right not to be attacked or grouped into blanket statments when they didn't do anything dishonorable themselves. And lastly, I know I'm old fashioned & many weren't raised as I was, but there's an old tradition that is deeply ingrained in many, many people but being lost in our amoral society. An honorable man doesn't talk ill of the dead. You just don't. It's very disrespectful & not in th least bit honorable. This goes for everyone regardless of what they have done in the past. whether the're a public servant, or a criminal. A man just doesn't talk ill of the dead. A man doesn't hit a woman, a man supports his family & a man doesn't speak ill of the dead. It's how I was raised at least. As for all the negativity in reputation arising from political disagreements from both sides of the arguments.. Let's stop abusing the system please. Please? That should be to see if information is reliable, or if someone is trustworthy for a sale. Not to attempt to drive people off. You never know. The person who was dogpiled may well never attempt to sell anything because he feels having a "bad reputation" will deter others from buying from him. Therefore the board loses money, because he doesn't even bother to become a contributer & you lose great deals, because instead of here, he lists it on gunbroker. Everyone looses, including the forum owner who's about the most forgiving admin the net has ever seen. I mean seriously... I know I do great work, but why in the hell is my reputation over 1,000 when Tony R.'s is less than 200? His should be up around 10,000 being as without his innovation half the advancements never would have taken place. He took 1 member's pile of shit gun that no other vendor would touch with a 10 foot pole & made it run well. He's rebuilding a feed foot for a member for a rack of beer. (at least $200.00 worth of rebuilding considering the skill & proper dimensions required) Or people like Tac-47 who engineered the auto plug & stepped up to donate a tricked out converted gun for a charity auction. Or Mike who literally risked it all to bring everyone the best, most proven 12 gauge drum ever put on a shotgun. Maybe everyone should think of using the reputation system for what it was intended for, not just like a bunch of pre-teens on youtube negging away at a comment made years ago saying that Micheal Jackson is a pedophile... Just sayin'... That being said, lets not keep the S-12 forum absolutely sterile. It's is the most fun a guy can have on a gunforum for a reason. We have republicans, democrats, libertarians, people who prefer an "alternative" lifestyle and everything from anarchists & totalitarians to mormons & atheists & everyone in between. Anywhere from RC, Scale Modeling, Media Burning, Robot repair, guns, etc., etc (as I am sure many of us here do). THIS Forum by far is and as far as I am concerned, the best one I have ever been allowed to join and participate in. Notice I said 'allowed'. No ass kissing here, just stating it as is. If you are thin skinned, then take it to one of the 'family friendly' forums....I like upfront, brutal and honesty 100% of the time and no freak'n sugar coating. I think the Mods do a damn fine job at regulating, and ALSO not stepping on too many toes at the same time. From what I have seen, people here have been given a VERY WIDE PATH as to freedom of posting.....IMHO, way to wide. But that is just me. I love the fact that if so inclined I can use pretty much any type of profanity I wish (within reason I suppose) and not get a warning or banned for it. Not too mention folks here really go out of their way to give good advice and help a member in need. That includes the vendors as well....even if they aren't making money on it. Juggs and the rest of you Mods....A++++ in my book and keep up the great work. Sometimes a heavy hand is needed to slap the shit out of us, to give us cause to pause and rethink what we posted.
