If it hadn't misfired, the politician would be dead. Several examples in this link. (Including some with live rounds, but several with "blank" rounds.) http://propguys.com/gundanger/ I've also personally talked to Western "Stunt Shooters" who use blank rounds to pop balloons during their exhibition shoots. One of them told me that he did mess up once, and his gun went off before it was clear of the holster. This holster was made of 2 layers of leather, with a thin sheet of steel between them.
