DLT 1,646
Being offered to me pretty used and dirty for $100. Get it or pass? Walnut furniture (scratched), long barrel (with some rust), looks like maybe 28 inches long. This would be my first pump shot gun if I decide to get it. The action is gritty but probably just more rust and carbon (my finger was black when I rubbed the inside of the receiver).

Matthew Hopkins 1,065
unless you want a winter project, I would pass. but if you do decide to buy it, 75 bucks would be what I would pony up on the SG described. you can always cut the barrel down to 18 inches (cheaper then buying a barrel) then put a heat shield that has a bead sight on it, to give a different kind of look to it, rather then a Elmer Fudd gun Edited November 11, 2014 by Matthew Hopkins

Spartacus 1,619
I was thinking maybe offer $30-$40 so the guy doesn't feel like he's giving it away. Sounds a bit rough, you're gonna have to take it apart and go through it. Would be ok as a project gun, I'd chop it down too like MH said. Ignore who the vendor is for now (CTD), but look at their price on a nice basic 12G pump. (I have one of these I got from Dick's, they are solid guns) Why spend $100 on a project gun when you can get a brand new one for $144 (plus shipping and transfer)?

No offense meant Spartacus, but I would sooner burn a hundred bucks to light a cigarette for a bum then give a dime to CTD. While your point is solid, surely some other vendor offers shotguns for the same price. Anybody? Edited November 12, 2014 by fatty alcohol
Spartacus 1,619
That's why I said ignore the vendor.... I know CTD is hated. You can probably find a decent price on it someplace else. Looks like Bud's is $162 with free shipping. Edited November 12, 2014 by Spartacus
chevyman097 2,579
I wouldnt pay for it first off until i knew it worked. Then i would maybe do 50-60. Like others said. I mean you can get a brand new Mossy 500 if you look hard enough for just a little more.
thebuns1 4,323
I've seen the field models go for around 280 new. I love Mossbergs. The barrel will be vented most likely, so a heat shield won't fit. Its definitely going to need cleaned. Avoid the maverick. The action arms and tube are shit compared to a real 500. Furniture can be replaced. I'd have to see it to determine if I'd pay it for that. But at least shoot it if you can.

Bigtwin 219
If it were me buying at $100. I would make sure it functions( I have 12ga snap caps). I would be all over it. Then again I am in CA and my prices for guns is not the same as folks in a free state. I think a new 500 is just shy of $300 here. Then again I am always up for a project gun! But that is just me. DLT 1,646
I called the guy up and told him it was too much. He countered by lowering the price to $75 and another $75 for a Maverick 88 in similar condition. So two Mossbergs for $150. What say you guys?
thebuns1 4,323
Just buy the 500 for the 75. Fuck the maverick. That 500 will be a steal in itself IMO. Just make sure you check the bolt, bolt carrier, interrupter, shell stop and elevator. Those are the only parts that will rust other than the barrel and mag tube. A good function test should do. Get some pics. I want to see it if you get it. But then again, both for 150 aint bad.
ChileRelleno 7,071
I wouldn't touch either in the described condition, not even for $75., now $50. maybe. Not when a new 500 can be had for less than $300 brand new.

Sim_Player 1,939
The tired mossberg 500 that I bought 18 years ago, cost me $40. I traded it for a mint S&W Model 3000, straight across. Still have it. $100 is way high. Edited November 12, 2014 by Sim_Player

Anyhow, thought it was cool video.
