  1. Interesting. Primary arms claims "Optional riser pictured allows for a lower 1/3 cowitness on flat top AR-15/M-16", and they also sell them in a bundle with an Ultimak tube. .... but they never say whether they cowitness on an Ultimak. Little bit of misdirection, huh?
  2. Just wanted to say.... if you're in Alabama, contact your state representative and tell them support House Bill 2 to repeal the state ban on SBS's and SBR's. Help bring Alabama's 2nd Amendment freedoms up to par with the other "free" states!
  3. Mined lead from the gun range backstop = good to go. Wheel weights = good to go. Battery lead = DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON Source: castboolits.gunloads.com
  4. Mine appeared to be riveted, and somewhat poorly. It actually popped out the first time I shot the gun. No big deal since I run Krebs sights -- I just welded the hole up and dressed it smooth.
  5. Is it so horrible to ID people as they exit the show? Of course if they did that they'd actually have to make arrests and deport the illegals, which would be a lot of extra work....
  6. Try it and see. You can always remove the paint and try something else. Have you considered something like XS big dots? I've got a set on an AK, and they're awesome.
  7. Before SHOT2010 I was like "hmmm, should I save up for a SCAR, an ACR? maybe an XCR?" Thanks to this kind of BS it's now down to Daniel Defense vs. BCM. Yeah.
  8. Welding FTW! (no offense to those who like rivets and bolts) When I converted mine I welded up the old FCG holes, receiver back plate and trigger guard at the same time at the good old MWR Auto Skills Center \m/ EDIT: Just noticed Paulyski's comment about the mag release spring. I didn't remove my spring. Was able to TIG on a Tromix guard without heat affecting the mag release area. Just be careful of how much heat you're dumping into the receiver.
  9. Yeah it's not hard to chop off. Basically your options for AR style buttstock tubes are: 1) Keep the tang and run a VLTOR AK-specific, milspec diameter tube. It doesn't fold. 2) Cut the dang tang and either weld a plate or insert an adapter, and bolt on a pignose. You can add an Ace side folding hinge if you want, optionally, and can use any commercial- or milspec AR tube you like. 3) Cut the dang tang and weld up an E-tec plate, which is a monolithic piece of steel that has the threaded AR tube adapter already built in (no pignose required). It won't fold either. Works with an
  10. Yep, that's a side folder trunnion with an AR tube shooped onto it. (I can tell by the pixels) OP could still run an VLTOR buttstock on a standard non-folding rear trunnion. They even make a tube that works without having to cut the tang.
  11. I love it! Don't worry, we'll get you a Noveske tomorrow. edit.... RHODODENDRONS! Oh man I'm almost literally ROFL'ing right now. This is epic.
  12. Well, sort of. Conduct your face-to-face (FTF) sales somewhere other than the private parking lot of the gun show. If the owners of that private property don't want you selling guns in the parking lot, they can kick you out for trespassing. In other words, keep it on the down low or head next door and sell guns in Wal Mart's parking lot
  13. You know, after seeing the ridiculous MSRP of the ACR, feeling how huge and blocky the SCAR is, and now this fiasco.... I am tempted to go out and build a good old fashioned, direct impingement AR-15. Would you believe they've been making these things for 40+ years and they actually work?
  14. Same seller also has this one up for sale. The description is just ridiculous. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=154510772 "Custom Converted Moded Saiga 12 tromix Tapco".... the only Tromix part on it is a bolt-on trigger guard. It has a Warsow certified stock with bullet hole, and a 4 dr mag.... a magazine with FOUR DOORS! I don't mean to make fun of people living with dyslexia, but holy crap if you know you can't spell at least get somebody to proofreed yuor riteing
  15. AK's aren't picky. Usually I'll use CLP for the same reasons stated above. The last time I cleaned out my S-12 though, Ballistol was closest at hand while the CLP was on a high shelf in the closet.... so I used Ballistol instead. Now for certain other applications the type of lube can make a bigger difference: e.g. I like to use moly grease on pistol slides and Militec-1 on AR's.
  16. Looks like authentic bullshit to me. Call your local BATF office and ask them! Now, parking lots are private property and the owners and gunshow organizers can ban whatever activities they like.... and the only law you'd be breaking for disobeying them would be trespassing! So if you're going to conduct FTF sales, do it discreetly. I'm guessing this was either some anti-gunner's attempt at propaganda, or a gun show organizer trying to get more people to buy tickets and exhibition spaces.
  17. Looks like a great way to break your thumb. "Ratchet" my ass....that handle comes flying backwards at warp speed with every shot fired. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0YjB0xMXTg
  18. Depends on the gun. There's so much variation in quality of Mosin Nagant barrels, not to mention variable surplus ammo quality. Shorter barreled rifles such as M38's and M44's will produce a massive muzzle flash when shooting DPS. Those loads have slower powder and are meant for longer barrels, but aside from some extra soot on your spike bayonet it doesn't hurt anything.
  19. The adapter will let you use just about any AR pistol grip as long as you're willing to cut off the extended backstrap. You may also need to trim if your PG has a "gapper" or trigger guard extension in the front.
  20. Foaming bore cleaner is generally safe for plastic and wood furniture. Just spray it in, let it sit 30 minutes, then brush and swab. If you're careful around stuff that can get eaten, penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Kroil also works really well to lift fouling. One nice thing about shotguns: there's no copper fouling to deal with. In a chrome lined shotgun bore there's no harm in simply chucking a bronze brush in an electric drill and going to town.
  21. Buy once, cry once. The best way to save money and still have decent optics is to stick to iron sights.
  22. Estate birdshot works fine for me.
  23. So what did he end up getting? Would be interesting to see what solutions NJ CCW holders come up with to deal with the ban on hollowpoint ammo. If I recall correctly, EFMJ and wadcutters are still legal. In a Glock or other automatic I'd probably go for a .45 with EFMJ, but would also seriously consider a .38+p or .44 wheelgun with good old fashioned lead wadcutters.
  24. I bought my first in 2007.....my last in late 2009 could I have been so lucky to have 19 4 port guns? Thanks for the offer but I believe I can build my own. Well, you're lucky enough to have 19 of them, so . . . 19 is a larger sample than what I've got for sure, but I can tell you my 2007 gun came out of the box with 4 ports and no receipt for refurb/warranty work at Cadiz. I was at my FFL's when the box arrived and personally unboxed it, so I can tell you that _my_ FFL wasn't the one who hid the paperwork. Could it have been the FFL who shipped it to me? Possibly. Or m
