  1. Have you reworked batches of Saiga-12's straight from RAA, before they were shipped to dealers? I've seen guns come right out of the box with 4 ports and no receipt or paperwork to suggest they had been sent up to Cadiz. There are several possibilities: 1- Some unscrupulous FFL's have been selling refurbed guns as new from the factory. 2- The distributor (RAA, perhaps some other party) has been covering up the fact that 4 port guns are refurbs. 3- There really is such a thing as a 4 port factory gun. So BVamp, what _do_ you know?
  2. Those canted grips look really non-ambidextrous. Even if you can't work your light while shooting on your weak side, you should still be able to hold the weapon somehow. I prefer a stubby grip or even just a small hand stop to use for indexing. Then (assuming right handed shooter) you can either a: mount a tape switch at 3 o'clock right on the rails and put your light anywhere, or b: mount your light at 9 o'clock and operate a tailcap switch with your thumb. Not saying that "choking the chicken" is wrong... it just doesn't work as well for me. EDIT: Just wanted to add that Slug
  3. +1 Yikes! Reminds me of the weekend before deer season at the public shooting range.

  5. That sucks. I've got a couple older AGP gen 2's with no rust on the springs, but I'm still paranoid after this screwup. Will AGP sell replacement springs? Otherwise I may have to pre-emptively break mine just to be able to replace them.

    Sling options

I like to use regular old GI web slings. The clip on the rear can be silenced without tape by jamming a wooden matchstick in it. On guns that don't have a front sling swivel, such as AK's, simply attach with a loop of paracord.
  7. Hmmm... see that's what makes me wonder. After reading reports of heavy ammo causing battered rear trunnions, I would not want to risk it in my PSL (assuming I had one, ha!) Maybe those commercial 203 grain soft points are loaded light? I have fired Barnaul/Bear brand 203 grain soft points through my bolt actions, and despite it being a heavy bullet the recoil doesn't feel any worse than standard 148 LPS or 152 grain 7N1. The loads that REALLY pack a wallop are eastern bloc DPS (yellow tip heavy ball, 180 grains, meant for belt-fed PKM's) followed by Finnish D-166 (low drag boattail, 20
  8. Yep, polishing the hammer will make a big difference. If you compare a Tromix-modded Tapco G2 hammer versus a stock one, you can see how the top surface has been reprofiled. IIRC, Tromix also relieves the side of the hammer pivot to make room for the factory BHO. VitaminK has the right idea with the gunfixer plug - it will let you run a greater variety of shells than the stock gas plug will. Plus the knurling makes it easy to adjust without tools. I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is for being overgassed.... say, maybe if your shells are ejecting farther than X feet away? My 4-po
  9. Exactly. Every type of CCW handgun needs a holster. Period. That trigger guard bikini looks fine for purse carry. Although, if you're worried about it getting scratched up maybe a pocket type holster would work just as well.
  10. Yep, if I had to guess.... that's probably what it is. How many people can claim that their rifle still ran flawlessly while literally FULL OF ROCKS? That's pretty funny
  11. +1 Would have liked them to include Ballistol too, and Eezox also. Brownell's also didn't distinguish between greases vs. waxes vs. oils, or products suitable for lubrication vs. stuff that's only good for long term storage. I mean... you can dunk a gun in cosmolene and it won't rust, but would use that stuff for lubrication???? Another thing they didn't cover is how the products degrade over time. Chlorinated petroleum products yield nasty byproducts as they break down, for instance. Ballistol (among other products) has a higher pH and additives to neutralize those kind of product
  12. I am well aware of this. Those rifles are designed from stem to stern to operate with adjustable levels of gas. OK. So, what is the PSL missing, other than an adjustable gas port? What other features or modifications does it lack, in your estimation?
  13. Well actually we're talking about 7.62x54R, but anyway... The adjustable gas port is meant to give the same push that you'd normally have with light ball ammo. DPS ammo has greater dwell time in the barrel and provides a longer, harder pulse of gas. Restricting the gas port results in a comparable impulse to what you'd get from LPS ammo. Nalioth, really, there are plenty of adjustable gas semiauto rifles that are adjustable specifically for this reason: to be able to shoot different weight bullets safely. I will admit that the DEZ block is one ugly looking chunk of metal though!
  14. You have to be a paid member to offer stuff for sale on this forum. Expect this thread to go away shortly, sorry. Also, turn off your damn caps lock.
  15. +1, very lame. Would have been nice if Surefire had figured that out BEFORE selling a shitload of 10 and 12 round magazines without that little disclaimer.
  16. Señor Frog's is lots of fun, but I wouldn't want to live there For now, I'm very happy living in the US and have no plans to jump ship. Lots of the rest of the world can be pretty nice, though.
  17. Sure, if you have sufficient resources you can live nearly anywhere you like. Note that even those charged to defend us generally swear an oath to defend the Constitution of the US, not the US itself. In a major SHTF situation, one solution might be to pack up the Founding Fathers' principles and re-establish a viable nation elsewhere.
  18. Nalioth, do you mean to imply that the DEZ block can't be adjusted down enough to keep the bolt carrier speed under control when firing heavy ball ammo? 'Cause if that's what you're saying, I'm open to your insights. I don't own a DEZ block and (perhaps naively) assumed that it could be restricted enough to work. DEZ claims you can even shut the gas off completely, so it only follows that intermediate settings are also possible. EDIT: Or maybe you're trying to say that the extra bolthead thrust from heavy ball is to blame for PSL damage? Clearly, it's not the culprit or we'd be seeind
  19. Wrong. If you reduce the gas so the bolt carrier moves at the same speed with heavy ball as it would normally with light ball... how much harder would the bolt carrier strike the rear trunnion? Or if you shut the gas off completely, the bolt won't even cycle. How does that equate to "beating itself to death", huh Nalioth?
  20. DEZ Arms makes adjustable AK gas blocks, including a .610" one that will fit PSL's. They're chunky and ugly, but it will let you shoot heavy bullets through your PSL without worry.
  21. Good shootin' Reb. You can't eat antlers anyway.
  22. Looks like it. Rust alone wouldn't have caused that failure, though. Probably heat treated wrong. There may be other bad AGP springs from this batch, but the rusty ones seem to be cracking first. So just 'cause you haven't allowed yours to rust doesn't mean you're safe. It makes you wonder... how do you stamp a serial number or do a rockwell hardness test on a skinny round wire?
