Never served. Signed up to go to the Citadel after high school but was disqualified due to recurring intestinal troubles from birth. That was in '83. Dad is DK1 retired after 22 yrs with the Navy. Tried to join the Navy in '87 but had the same result as the Air Force. Went to work for General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Groton, CT '88-'95, Electronics Mechanic IBEW LU261. To avoid the Clinton cutbacks, applied to the IBEW LU3 NYC in '95. Been here ever since. Tried to join the Army as a specialist but the same medical record kept comming up until I was just too old after 4

Awesome job there, James! Great writeup and is a tribute to those of us who are brave enough to do our own conversions. Wish I could do that style conversion here in NY! Congrats and have fun with it. I like the full stock on it. nyclu3

I use High Heat barbecue grill paint and haven't had any issues. If the paint gets blemished, then just spray again... El Cheapo quick fix coz the wife won't let me bake duracoat in our oven and I don't have a spare oven to use. nyclu3

xbox360, Almost everyone here who has done their own conversions has had moments like yours. Just take the good with the bad and learn from both. Your project looks fine but before you do live fire, make absolutely sure everything is in order. There are many forum tutorials and pictures for you to browse over to make sure you're cool. Remember that this is a learning process and you are doing this for the first time. Patience and understanding the mechanics of the tool is the key. You should not leave anything out, such as the trigger and hammer pin retainer. Good luck. nyclu

Another great deal from my friend, Cobra76two. I had seen the HGs that he installed on some of his many Saigas and notified him of my special needs as I had two very different guns. He knew exactly what I was talking about because he had been there and done that. All I had to do was give him my measurements and he came through in four day's time from concept to a special package in my mailbox today. It's been a couple of years since I tinkered with these weapons and it felt great! Here are a few porn pics: I just couldn't stop to picture the S-12 HG before installing it !

Cobra, That's just not right. As soon as some of us just start catching up, you just come out with something like this... Maybe I was wrong about going with BRG3's wooden setup? Maybe I just need another S-12 or S-20 to tinker with... Maybe I should let my mortgage go into foreclosure so I can get some of that stimulus money??? Maybe I should do some side jobs to get extra gun money? Oh whoa is me, so many ideas, so little money now that I have the time. Maybe if I didn't get the grandkids that swingset I would have money for these kind of toys. Sorry for

get both. They fire the same ammo and magazines are cheap, but HK Mags are cheaper. +1 on getting them both. I have both and they are great! nyclu3

I have't taken out the S-20 since pheasant hunting season but it would be nice to have a couple of new mags for it. nyclu3

Sorry to hear of your loss. Make sure you take good care of your mom, that's what he would have wanted. nyclu3 -
I would also like to see different magazine options for the S-20. It's been overlooked for way too long. nyclu3

Steyr BNZ 43 K98 Mauser
nycGUNguy replied to nycGUNguy's topic in Other Weapons - RIFLES (non-AK based)
Thanks for the advice Mr. Reverend Franz, Since the numbers on the stock and bolt don't match the receiver, I guess I can try to find a surplus military stock of the right configuration. Upon searching, I find that the proper buttplate is cupped and that I need to find a front sight blade, hood and sling. If I can convince my friend to let me buy it from him then I will want to restore it to look like the Mitchell Arms Mausers. I also just noticed that the safety is missing at the back of the bolt. nyclu3 -
I have a friend who told me that he had his dad's old rifle that he used to play with in the Bronx. He was wondering about it and said that he recently retreived it from his sister-in-law's house that had burned down in the Bronx. The police had given it back after firefighters had retrieved it from the basement. He told me that his dad had been in the Army during the war in Germany. When I went to his house to look at it, I was surprised to see that it was all rusty, dirty, had paint on it, and also had some kitchen grease on it. When I looked at it, I knew that it was a Mauser k98 becau

I wish someone would mod one into the Call of Duty World at War PC. The shotgun options in the game suck. A nice S-12 with 10-12 rd sticks and a MD-20 drum please... nyclu3 codwaw: nycHIGHVolt3

There is only the question of which backplate color you want, black, smoke, clear or better yet, all three. The right one for me was MD-20 w/smoke cover. Mike is a stand-up guy who always backs his products and they are of the highest quality. Would you rather have something that shoots tampons or something that shoots lead??? (Love that picture Cobra!) nyclu3

Guys, invest 100 bux into a 12 ton press from harbor freight if you plan on doing a lot of this type of work. It will pay for itself in time, money and aggrivation. Also invest in a good bench vice and fabricate plastic jaws for it or have lots of scrap wood for the vice. Keep in mind that the pins come out towards the ejection port side from the serial number side. Use good quality punches and a solid surface with wood so as not to damage the gas block. Good luck and always research the old posts. Many of us here have posted pictures of our projects. Always ask questions because

I was just talking to Cobra about this problem. Thanks for the detailed play by play. I was able to fix my issue by rethreading the original plug into the threads. It seems that they are cut deeper into the plug than the Guinfixr plug threads, or at least it seemed that way to me. I also got my new plug to fit but only with the gun in a vice and had to grind down one of my heavy screwdrivers as a tool to turn the knob. I will go to the range tomorrow to try it out... nyclu3

I am also interested in renting/ borrowing one of these as I had the same problem. nyclu3

Mike, Congratulations on your expanding Empire-to-be! Good luck. I'm sure we can expect only the best products your mind can dream up and your hands can produce. The additional help will allow you to brainstorm new ideas and give you more time for customer support. I look forward to investing much more money into your accounts. nyclu3
