laid up for a spell...

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share my latest issue with you folks... After to many years of doing things the Easy way and not the right way...I had zero cartilage left in my right hip. Plus bone spurs to add to the fun and thrills of pain. So last month I consulted my physician, was referred to a surgeon, and on June 8th, I had a full right hip replacement. Spent a couple days in the hospital. Came home early Saturday afternoon. Been enjoying the fun of rehab at home getting up and about. Things are going well, I feel good, for the most part. Other than the actual surgical incision/bone work pain I think I'm doing pretty well. Just thought I'd share this little chapter with everyone. ☺☺

So with all that said...I'm gonna start a new thread about an issue that's driving me nuts, over in the reloading section. Any input on that topic will be very welcome!!

Listen to the doctor and don't over do it. It will heal in its own time. Over do it and you'll set yourself back. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hang in there Indy. It'll be worth it.

Don't overdo it, but keep up with your PT! Make it work now, or it won't work later.

Best Wishes to you.  :)

Take it slow and enjoy any perks.

I spent 5 months in a cast when I broke my right ankle a second time.

The xrays showed a nasty break. He offered to pin it but, I declined.

Painkillers made my life tolerable. When the pain was gone, so were the pills.

I still have 90% movement and almost no discomfort.

Praying for your quick recovery!

Take care Sir!  Take it easy and let time and rehab heal as it should.  My sister had a hip replacement and she is loving life now.  Absolutely amazing what they can do.  Just take it easy...I know its hard...I really do.

Rehab as hard as you can. Taking it "easy" is not the way to go! PT as hard as you can without getting fatigued, or causing injury.

I have a metal knee, and as an old Elevator Constructor I have MANY friends with replacement parts.

You cannot hurt the replacement parts with PT, it is the YOU around the new parts that is injured, and must be stretched to work and kept moving thru the complete normal range of motion. If not, adhesions form that will cause PAIN and loss of motion in the joint. The ones who rehab hard get wonderful results - LOVE my metal knee!

Glad your surgery went well Indy. The recovery sucks, but you are going to love not being in constant pain! Take advantage of the TLC while you can brother ;)

You misunderstood. Translation: Don't hurt yourself.

Or, to put it more simply,

USE YOUR FUCKING HEAD.

Hang in there, as we know you will. It's better that you took care of it now than later when it will take longer as this old fart knows. Take what time you need and it will hopefully heal with minimal problems.

Do not be afraid of asking for the proper level of pain medication. You need to be able to do the rehab. Just get off it as soon as it is not necessary.

Rehab and get STRONG! Damn it feels GOOD when it is all over and you can MOVE again!

Though I am sure this may sound hollow, be glad it was correctable.

A lot is not

Good luck to you from a fellow old fart.

It's an easy thing to dismiss, but for the quickest and best results in recovery do NOT neglect nutrition.  Cartilage, protein, amino acids, calcium.. all the building blocks of bones muscle and connective tissue. Better to EAT them from natural sources than supplement them. Good luck, get well soon.

I think I'm on the proper level of pain meds. 10 mg oxy every 4 hours seems to work so so... Problem is...if I take 15, it makes my face all itchy and that bugs me worse than my pain... So I take what I can, and do my best. And yes...I'm glad it was reversible. Or at least fixable!! Too many conditions are permanent...

That's usually when you realize just how religious you are. laugh.png

Please, God...009.gif

Look at the non-Viagra wood I'm (usually?) sporting after a good constipated poop passes through though.  027.gif:lol:

Dude you are so wrong on so many levels!

Is there anything that doesn't give you a boner?

This is so true, you have to fuel the body so it can repair.

Healing from surgery takes a lot of energy, that is why rest is so important.

I imagine I'd have to sneak a carrot into the bed if Rosa Delauro (D-Conn) slipped in and wanted a romp. 015.gifwacko.png

That, or pinch a big consto poop and shut my eyes tightly for 3 (or so) minutes afterwards. horror.gif

I still have some standards.  Hey, aren't we supposed to be kinder & gentler to each other these days? unsure.png
