  1. I usually track down items like this on forums. Arfcom's EE is where I'd start for this.
  2. Vented tubes were used on Chinese rifles, and older Soviet rifles that did not have a vented gas block. The vents serve absolutely no purpose in the function of the rifle, but from my experience do help to allow debris to escape out into the air before it gets deposited on your gas piston and inside your rifle. You can run the rifle with no vents at all, vents in the tube, vents in the block, or vents in both, and it will function exactly the same in any configuration.
  3. It will require modification to fit Chinese as mentioned and Yugoslavian rifles. But yeah stamped AKM rifles will take the same furniture as AK47 and AK100 series rifles. Milled receivers will not.
  4. Why bother? If you aren't shooting at a range that requires this, just buy Milsurp 7n6. It's not going away any time soon, and if you're worried, it's cheap now...buy it cheap, and stack it deep.
  5. Yep I use one every time I need to sight in a new weapon. Usually just use it at about 15 feet. It gets me on paper and very close before I go sling rounds. I just have one of the type that goes into the muzzle of the rifle and is universal. Use the same end piece that you use for a .22 or 5.56 and it works great.
  6. I have never built from a receiver, but I do know that Nodak Spud (NDS) is what you want.
  7. Welcome to the forum. I don't know for certain about the .223, but for my 5.45, and any other AK, I always run foreign military surplus magazines. The difference is in the construction of the magazines. US made ones, and aftermarket magazines are all plastic. Including the feed lips and locking lugs. The feed lips can break and plastic locking lugs can break. This is my experience with 5.45 and 7.62 AK magazines, and I'm not sure what the options for 5.56 are. As far as the stock goes, yes that will work fine. Any stock designed for a fixed stock (stamped) AK will work. When I say stam
  8. I have ordered a lot of various pistol and rifle mags from CDNN, always satisfied. Their prices can't be beat.
  9. Those Saigas are in serious need of conversions. If you think you like it now, wait till you turn it into an AK. Welcome to the dark side.
  10. Yeah, the 5.45's sold quick last time they were shipped in, this time, they have sold even quicker.
  11. As far as I've always heard the new ones (after some date in 09 I think) all have dimples. My 5.45 is dated 09 and has dimples. In general for other AK based weapons, the non-dimpled receivers usually are for single stack rifles. They won't accept double stack, or standard AK magazines. This is why the WASR rifles have no dimples, they are single stack receivers, that are modified once they get here to become double stack rifles. Since you were also considering one in 5.56, be aware that all the cheap military 5.45 ammo is corrosive, and you will have to make sure to clean the rifle af
  12. This will be interesting to know. I was going to make a clamp on threaded muzzle adapter for my K31. I have seen them, and people using them so I assume they are legal (at least on a bolt gun), but I've never heard specifically yes or no. Is a muzzle device something that would cause the firearm to fall into 922r requirements? I'll be back to see what people say on this.
  13. Depending on what you are willing to spend for ammo, you absolutely cannot beat a K31 for accuracy from an infantry rifle. The 7.5x55 is more expensive for them though.
  14. I have both a 7.62 and a 5.45, between the two, I like 5.45 better for many reasons. The short list is that it is lighter, so I can carry more, and it is still effective through a lot of cover (7N6 has a mild steel core) while delivering some pretty awful wounds.
  15. Excellent find. They have some interesting looking stuff too
  16. They will sit pretty high, but it could be done.
  17. I usually shoot bullets in my guns. In your case I'd recommend some shotgun shells. 12ga is preferable if you have it.
  18. I want to get one for my wife's rifle, as this is the best choice for weight and balance in adding an optic. They appear to be having some teething pains with this, though...might want to wait a few months. Or see if you can find a gen1 version of it, depending on what you used for your stock setup the Gen1 might work well, although I think the gen2 shown there is too awesome. They have to get it working right... I need one.
  19. Full auto AK's on stamped receivers have single hooks because of the rate reducer. Works for them, works for me. I don't have anything against a double hook trigger, but I don't see any benefit in doing more work to use one either.
  20. There were very few ever made. The optic they were using in them was redesigned, and so the mount needed a redesign... This was like two years ago. I think LaRue is too busy raking in money on AR stuff to worry too much.
  21. I believe it's fake, unfortunately. As far as I know no real Kobra's ever had phillips head screws like that, and none ever had the lightening cuts. Curious, what's that thing sticking off the front of the sight? Looks like some sort of nub just below the lense?
  22. I just sleep naked. Any intruders who still want to fight will have to fight a naked guy. It's just a no win situation for them.
  23. Exactly true, changing the weight and friction on the INTERNAL parts will help cycling. Overall weight of the rifle, not at all. Effectively, the gas pressure inside the barrel creates a bomb. The expansion of the pressure pushes out equally in every direction. The pressure pushing on your barrel, bolt face and the load are all equal. The bolt is locked in place with lugs, it cannot back up. The barrel is well made and does not give, so the load moves down the barrel. Once the load passes the gas port, this pressure begins to press on the gas piston. The gas piston is connected to the carrier
  24. It should have no effect at all. The weapon is gas operated. The same amount of gas goes through the ports whether the gun is mounted solidly, or whether it is somehow suspended loosely in midair. The pressure inside the barrel is what cycles the weapon and this pressure is the same (given the same load) no matter what is physically happening around the weapon.
