Bvamp 604
from the woods of upstate NY, now reside in central west florida, in what I call a city, but is pretty rural to the rest of you. I have to come back and edit this one, in light of Juggernaut's post... I was born in Dutchess country NY, and lived there my entire life until just a few months ago. noteable points of interest off the top of my head: FDR presidential estate Vanderbuilt (oil baron) estate Lafayette and Washington met there in the revolution and turned the war around. LOTS of revolutionary war history there. the atomic bomb had part made there charles manson has called it home Vassar college (HOT girls, lemme tell ya) Culinary institue of America home to the governor of NY (I was his neighbor before I moved) some of the best trout waters in the USA, often in field and stream third highest per capita gun owning county in america nolan ryan's minor league team and stadium is there many many famous people live around town home to the band soundgarden one of the best small concert clubs is there "the chance theater" Many of the most famous race horses have and do call it home timothy o'leary estate is there (turn on, tune in, drop out.....what a rocket scientist) I just HAD to outdo you JUGGS!!! I can keep going, too! Was sad to leave there, really...just trying to show why. where I live now in florida? about the only thing I can say is there are no minorites (not that that matters much to me, but there are no illegals infesting the work force there), and I can walk twenty minutes in any direction and go bass fishing....we have manatees, tarpon, gators, and well, old people. oh yeh, and tornadoes and hurricanes.....WOO HOO. Hell of a trade up, aint it? Edited December 24, 2007 by Bvamp
Juggernaut 11,054
Owosso, Michigan Home of the Curwood Castle. The 1225 Steam Engine (The one used to model the polar express) Was also the home of the Author of "Not without my Daughter" Betty Mahmoody In August 1984, Michigan housewife Betty Mahmoody accompanied her husband to his native Iran for a two-week vacation. To her horror, she found herself and her four-year-old daughter, Mahtob, virtual prisoners of a man rededicated to his Shiite Moslem faith, in a land where women are near-slaves and Americans are despised. Bvamp 604
see? we all have some history at home!!! too cool! maxwell: I have flown over the trinity site, but I may actually take the time to go visit it personally this visit to AZ. nice avatar! that was the day we won the 20th century, and the first in flight thing was the minute.......right on man. I see IBM was mentioned.....back home, they made one of the rarer M1 carbines at IBM plant, in poughkeepsie. numrich arms and auto ordnace resides about two mile from the county line, as well, just over yonder..... on a related note, one of the largest private collections (or three) still reside back home, and the largest colt pistol collection holder moved out of the state because of laws about two to three years ago. so it aint all that great a place..... we all have a lot of history or relevant history at home, its just a matter of knowing what it is...... by the way, my avatar....that gun was made about 40 miles from where I was born in poughkeepsie, NY. It was bored and finished in troy, NY, by a "nelson lewis" in about 1888, and it was a pinnacle piece of his career. another bit of home. I regret trading it for a huge profit to this day.
