beerasaurus 9
Hey guys, Time to order a new VFG, and I'm torn as to which one to go with. My left shoulder is pretty torn up, so I like to keep my hands close together when I shoot--so I don't want a grip that mounts way out on the front of the weapon. The issue is that with the rock n' lock design of a Saiga, a full-sized vertical front grip tends to be pushed too far out by the magazine as it's being manipulated. So what I'm looking for is a compact VFG that is big enough to get some purchase on and that will give me the consistant ergonomics of a grip (as opposed to just grabbing the mag, as I usually do), but is short enough to be pulled pretty far towards me. I'm thinking this one from Carolina Shooter Supply, but could also go with the Tapcos or any of the other myriad of shorty grips. Anyone have thoughts or experience? Thanks. YOT 3,743
The shorty I have on the HP 99TS in this picture is 3" from the rail or a 3 finger grip. It works well and has storage for an extra battery under the pull out plug (that fits very tight). I got it off ebay for around $7. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?app=gallery&module=images§ion=viewimage&img=3360
akastormi 617
If you want a full size front vert grip as far back on the handguard with out interfering with mag changes. You can go with a off set mount.
The_Caged_Bird 474
I went with a cheap adjustable VFG. You just push a button to fold it. It's stood up to the S-12 so far...
6500rpm 670
The KZ Stubby from Botach Tactical is one of the best stubby's I've ran across. Quality of product and finish is very nice and is priced too good to be true. (I've picked up two) Edited January 26, 2011 by 6500rpm
Gibbles 23
I can rock and lock with it like this It is tight, but I use the grip as a guide, and then I just press up forward to lock the front lug in and then rock back to click in.
Jdhonda810 29
This is the one I've always used on my S12. Short, fat, and easy to grab. Is also polymer so it's light weight and also has a rubber "seal" on the bottom for storage inside the grip. I love this how comfortable it is to hold. CAA makes it. Just google CAA short grip and you'll get thousands or results. Very inexpensive.
corbin 621
I've got a Tapco shorty on an OEM handguard. It's set back almost to the rear of the HG. It works fine. Might sell the whole setup if you're interested. PM me.

evlblkwpnz 3,418
Not cheap, but I love my Larue LT-FUG....
Acer2428 4
The FUG is nice, but as mentioned, pricey. The Tapco works, but BOY is it U-G-L-Y! Any of the knights armament, samco, etc. middle of the road guys will work. Go over to AR15.com and look at their vendors too. The AR guys are all over the stuby vfg. skiboatsp 111
My first 8" I wanted a super short, stubby FVG
beerasaurus 9
Oooh. That magpul looks interesting. I also really like the CSS stubby conceptually.
Fumes 84
Oooh. That magpul looks interesting. I also really like the CSS stubby conceptually. You should be able to look in my gallery and see both on my S12. Only my AFG is a first gen.
Chowderhead72 13
For $25 or less I like the magpul railed vertical grip; short plain and cheap. If you open up the budget the Troy is awesome; just to rich for my blood. I have the magpul version on my S12 as well as my Sig 522 swat.

Chowderhead72 13
+1 for the KZ Stubby On sale for $20 at bt!! I had never seen that before, looks like a great cheap grip.
22_Shooter 1,560
I like the Tango Down stubbies. Definitely not the cheapest in the bunch, but you can find them used for like $25 and the lock up rock solid. I prefer the shortest grip possible, as I mainly use a VFG for indexing and pressure. I don't grip it like a baseball bat. I still need to chop down a full length Tango Down that I have, for my S12.
MT Predator 2,294
+1 for the KZ Stubby On sale for $20 at bt!! I had never seen that before, looks like a great cheap grip. I am impressed with mine. All aluminum construction, locks up tight on the rail, and offers internal storage space. Not bad at all for the price!
