Some State Department officials now insist that anything published online in a generally-accessible location has essentially been 'exported,' as it would be accessible to foreign nationals both in the U.S. and overseas.

Meaning they would regulate discussion of firearms on the internet under ITAR.

Welcome to the New World.

Time is of the essence! Public comment will be accepted on the proposed gag order until August 3, 2015. Comments may be submitted online at regulations.gov or via e-mail at DDTCPublicComments@state.gov with the subject line, ‘‘ITAR Amendment—Revisions to Definitions; Data Transmission and Storage.”

Finally, please contact your U.S. Senators and Member of Congress. Urge them to oppose the State Department’s attempt to censor online speech concerning the technical aspects of firearms and ammunition. Use the “Write Your Lawmakers” feature on our website or call the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 225-3121.

Being designated as a "marked man", by Bloomberg, Schumer, Feinstein's, et al, commander in chief, I am privileged and honored to be in the company of all that contribute to these fine forums. Without Saiga 12, I would never have gotten what I have today. The news content is better than MSN or some of the other rags I've tried. At least here and some of the other haunts let me express myself with little or no restriction. Unable to say that responding elsewhere when you know a carload of liberals will jump your comments and whine about how radical and insensitive I am. They're entitled to rebuke my opinions, but if I am being truthful about my facts, it tickles me that I have ruffled some feathers. I am curious to see if the media comes out screaming over this, because if they don't their shit is going to be censored next. As B. Franklin said, " We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately". "I ain't gonna swing on no gallows". Matthew Quigley

Seems to me that were this asinine regulation to pass... and were it ever enforced via the internet sphincter police, the government would lose a precious data-mining identification system/process/resource.

As far as I'm concerned, it's up to the foreign governments to censor what their citizens can't have access to. The minute ours tries that shit, the same law will apply to online porn. Trust me, a SHITLOAD of attorneys will be on that like flies at gelatin factory.

So it is information as well as verboten gadgets that can not leave the USA?  And would this forbidden info also include all the sensitive stuff that is NOT fire arm related or is he being very picky and choosie for a reason ... and only picking on firearm info?  Lame duck Pres.  What else will he try?  HB.  They say fore warned is fore armed.

We have a department at our company just to deal with ITAR.  It covers everything from hardware and software to drawings and even the casual mention of any specification.

If this new regulation happens there is no way that any gun website can stay in operation.  If anybody "releases" any information that isn't already approved by Uncle Asshole the website would be subject to huge fines and maybe jail.

Besides the forums, the gun makers and accessory makers would have a nightmare.  Aimpoint would have to have government approval to publish the specs of their sights.

It's the most insane power grab I've ever seen in this country.

This isn't the camel's nose under the tent, this is the whole goddamn herd shitting in your living room.

So if this shit passes, are we all getting passwords and making this a private site for members only?

The requirements of ITAR would mean only 'US persons" would be allowed to be members in that case.  Meaning only lawful permanent residents of the US.

But here's a question...  Even though hussein wants to be emperor, he still has no power outside the US, and the internet knows no borders.  He can't control what is published on sites outside the US.  So just how do they plan to police this shit?  Would they try to make it a crime for you and me to post on a site outside the US?

It's all BULLSHIT.  There is no national security threat to posting the battery life of an Aimpoint sight, or the accuracy of a particular rifle/load.

This is 100% about taking away our ability to communicate with each other.  Information is the bane of tyrants.  Subjects must be kept isolated and ignorant.

Fuck You Hussein!  We will not be silenced!

Could this not be some sort of Leeland Yee level spam law that just exists so that the person who proposed it can say "I tried to do this but THEY wouldn't let me!" ? I guess its the state department but it could still just be bait for Liberals so they stay dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.

Depending on what is a 'specification', most of the history channels programming about wars and weapons could fall into the same category. As they mentions weights calibers and rates of fire fairly often.. As would many Ebooks, Video games, school text books ect.

Its really ridiculous since firearms are pretty dated technology. Even the "new stuff" is like 1950s technology, everything I work with was widely available in 1900. But you can't let China get their hands on 115 year old technology that they have surpassed 60+ years ago.

Hell you can get arrested for bringing Chinese made night vision back to china... The arrest would state that your sharing military technology, even when they made it.

But since when has government made sense anyway?

Clinton left the door open to the secret weapons stash when China was visiting in the 90s, so they already have all the blueprints they need. Don't have to piece it together from random forum posts.

This has to tie in with turning control of the Internet over to that international body?

I have been reading comments on Facebook regarding this great new idea the overlord is proposing and I can honestly say I've never read so many posts not just saying "no", but "fuck no you commie fuck!" Or something like that. This could be the infamous SHTF moment so many have been waiting for.

What is it about firearms that liberals are so damn scared about? Why can't they just leave us alone? The whole freaking world is falling apart all around them and all they can focus on is screwing American citizens. Is this really about gun control, or screwing the companies that tend to support republicans during election time? I've always wondered how liberals could be so anti big tobacco, and so pro Marijuana? Is it really that they wanted to hurt GOP contributors? Because pushing one over the other makes no sense.

You know what this means? No more online reviews of ANY US-made products. Everything from a screwdriver to a pair of boots. We will descend into the dark ages where companies can screw everyone with crap products because nobody will see bad reviews and avoid them. This would get shockingly bad extremely quickly and there WILL be chaos and uprising.

There goes the Discovery channel. "How It's Made showed the other night the quick process on lever action rifles. You and I know there is no way we are going to build a rifle based on some incomplete information show. I'll be hanged before I start watching Sponge Bob.

I've been thinking about the reasoning behind this for the last day.  Could this be an "end-around" to curtail citizens from building their own firearms from blanks or 80% kits?  I'm sure they just love having non-serial numbered firearms being produced legally.

Agreed, but I'd like to add, let's go after Harbor Freight. If theire is ever a company in the US screwing it's customers with crap QC it's them and where is most of it from? Sweden, Germany, Italy, hell no, CHINA, our favorite mortgage holder and all around best bud. I like to talk about guns, I like to learn about things. I like to talk about tools, cars, trucks and the imagination that people have with theire passions, even if it isn't mine. I hate buying a tool and having to fix it two hours after it's out of the box. Same with firearms. I know I get what I pay for, but after taking some of HF's stuff apart, almost all is designed to fail shortly after it's put into service from my experience. Example, theire cheap heat gun. Where did they put the fuse? On the outside of the heat shield. Mine lasted two uses and I had to go to Radio Shack for a new fuse, which I can't do any more because theire Chinese outlets are closed. Talking about guns is a real threat and China is burying us under tons of junk plastic and crap metal. Just so everyone knows, I invented my second word and want the Forum to feel free to use it however they see fit. THEIRE. It's for the grammatically challenged that don't know how to use there and their correctly. I've used there/their wrong, once, so now my way makes either acceptable. Enjoy.
