I love technology, but I miss a few things as I'm sure some of you do.

1. Parking lots that were a wide, flat surface with only painted lines and no curbs and trees. Lord only knows why you would remove countless spaces for nothing more than appearance.

2. Towels and cloths made from natural materials that actually absorbed moisture and didn't just relocate it.

3. People that couldn't drive in the first place driving without a cell phone attached to their ear.

That's my top 3, I want to hear yours.

Gun racks in the back window of pickup trucks. It was useful. Now it'll get you pulled over and maybe arrested.   I miss the days when "political correctness" didn't exist.   I miss $1 a gallon ga

Playing all summer.

I miss being able to give and get directions from people. I DON"T HAVE GPS BECAUSE I'D RATHER LOOK AT THE MAP AND USE MY BRAIN!

"Do you have the address so I can put it in my GPS?"

"No, but I can tell you how to get there."

"Nevermind"

?????

"So where is the place at?"

"It's in my GPS."

"How do you get there?"

"Uh.. I just follow my GPS."

That was #1

#2 is actually knowing peoples phone numbers.

Cases of wolf for less than $120. Cases of 5.45 for less than a $100.

That guy that made me laugh every time he talked.

Ok that one was a little low.. But man the volume of bush jokes was just amazing. These days any president joke gets you labeled a racist.

Oh and those $75 parts kit AKs.

Being able to push someone in the pool without having to worry if I'd have to replace a $300+ phone.

When I could take a road trip and have it cost less than a flight.

When I could fly without being molested.

And I'm going pretty far back now, but having gills would be pretty sweet.

I miss being unavailable when I'm not actually inside of my house and near a phone. I really think cell phones are the worst thing to have ever been invented, despite their incredible range of utility. You can never really "get away," and if you choose to turn your phone off you are now seen as rude or potentially negligent in the event of someone else being able to contact you in an emergency.

And I'm only 28. I'm supposed to be in the generation that loves all of this shit. I'm young, I work in IT/communications, but honestly I hate all of it. I wish it would go away. It's made the world too small, it's taken away all of our privacy, and make every person beholden to everyone else in their lives - bosses, wives, family, friends - simply by avenue of being available for contact at all times.

I miss $1 a gallon gas.

I miss seeing NEW machine guns and >50 cal weapons available without tax or restrictions at a reasonable price.

I miss airports without mandatory illegal search by people who look like THEY should be the ones being searched.

To put it simply:

I MISS FREEDOM!

In no particular order:

$69 SKS

$125 AK

Chinese steel core ammo for $49/1K

Surplus USGI 1911 mags for a buck a pop

.45 ACP ammo for $8.95/50

Gas stations sold ammo

K-mart actually beat Wal-mart in the firearms dept.

People actually helped one another, and didn't worry about ambulance chasing turds.

Surplus stores actually sold surplus merchandise, and at a cheap price.

Although Montana still allows many of the things listed here, like ammo at gas stations and gun racks in the truck window I still miss most of the things already posted.

I also miss:

Liberty

Cops who didn't look like commandos

Polite people, who would actually talk to you instead of texting anyone else to avoid talking to who they are actually with.

I have a feeling you and I are riding in the same car on this train....for me it was the CJ5 I bought when I was stationed in Va. Beach....Get a buzz going, take the top off and load up with fellow hard heads, go down to the beach and cruise the boulevard.

It's easy to say "If I only knew then what I know now" but I have a feeling people have been saying the same thing for a very long time. "Wisdom" and "Youth" are too often mutually exclusive terms. But I've learned to have no regrets, and I do honestly believe that things turned out the way they were meant to...

Most people, if they had access to a time machine, would go back and try to change monumental things in history. Me? I'd go back and stock up on cartons of smokes!grimace.gif

You are right Squishy!! I have no regrets, and enjoyed the ride so far, and hope that it goes on for a long time yet!!LOL Had a lot of fun in those carefree days, and still do, just doesn't take as much to do me. I think that the main thing I miss about years ago, is the loved ones that have gone on and are no longer with us. Other than that, it's all good...
