BoKnows 12
Sorry Mike (MD Arms) but I had to do it. Got out the Wood Burning Iron and spent about 20-minutes. This is my first attempt at stippling and I'm quite happy with the results.
TwentyNizzo 66
Cool! I really wish they made those grips without finger grooves though. I hate finger grooves!
Fumes 84
That looks great, I just might buy another and see if I can get one to turn out that good.

Give me the old smooth ones please.
sleepersilverado 3
If i am not mistaking someone on here shaved the finger groves off. thats an option. Bo i am really digging that! What are other techniques for stippling?
BoKnows 12
Bo i am really digging that! What are other techniques for stippling? There are different tip sizes and I used the medium one. I will try the fine tip next. Other than the "dot" technique there is also a Tree Bark style. I don't like the look of the Tree Bark. Mullet Man 2,114
I like that. You think just the tip of a soldering iron would work about the same? I have 3 of the MD Molots. At first i didnt want the grooves either and was going to hold out for the non grooved Izhmash copy but i've "fallen" for how comfortable they are since i've been using them. There is a thread on here where a guy removed the grooves off of his and it turned out pretty decent. Edited December 21, 2010 by Mullet Man

I think I have 6 or so Molot grips, but I'm too tired lately to bother with modding one.... getting old.
BoKnows 12
Used the Fine Tip on this Grip. It has taken me an hour to do 1/3 of the grip; what do you think? Fine or Medium Tip?
L5K 162
Wow, finetip definitely. That looks awesome.
skiboatsp 111
medium!! Looks Great!!!!
farmdog 12
Both look great, i'm leaning medium though.
Zambidis 90
If one doesn't like the grooves and is going to stipple then I'd imagine removing the grooves shouldn't be much trouble.
xxxpez 5
Both look good however I'm leaning towards the Med one. For me though the feel would be the deciding factor.
BoKnows 12
Gave it a try at doing Tree Bark Stippling. Not too bad for a first try. Grip wise, the Medium Dot Pattern has the most grip. The Fine Dot is next and the Tree Bark has the least amount of grip. IMHO the Fine Dot pattern has a good compromise between grip and comfort.
6500rpm 670
Dude, that looks fantastic. Quality job on the grips and great photo work to go with it. What kind of iron did you used? I don't think I've ever wanted to try or do that till now.
blackshoesnipe 0
Great job! Will have to try it myself. I read on another post, that a belt sander works well on removing the finger grooves.
doodi1 23
Wow, I really like the Tree bark Stippling. I have 10+ of these grips. I might sacrifice one to see how I like this. Please let us know what tool you used for this.

It looks identical aside from no logo. Unfortunately, he stopped making them now due to the winter weather I believe. $30 isn't a bad price at all.
Darko 42
the "tree bark" one looks a little like a "bone" pattern. pretty cool

It's always nice to have options.....but $30 for a replica grip is bordering on "too much", for my tastes. I got a factory Izhmash grip for like $40ish. I'd probably be quicker to snag up one of MD's replicas for $12 (or are they still $6) and then grind off the grooves. YMMV
hobbyshooter 59
I remember seeing someone post a pic of a grip they dremeled the grooves off of and stipled. I personally am not a fan of stipling so I took the dremel to my finger grooves with an 80 grit sanding drum, then swapped it to a worn out 240 grit drum which created a bit of a grain finish to the grip. I know it's not as pretty as stipling but it feels great. I always thought stipling was overkill. Edited December 25, 2010 by hobbyshooter
Jpanzer 1,265
+1 0n the Izmash grip. I would buy one in a heartbeat if MD made that model...

BoKnows 12
Finally spent the time to install one of my stippled grips. The original Tapco Saw Style just didn't fit right but the MD Molot feels way better.
