Dragonov or tigr, where?
Matthew Hopkins replied to eric1785's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
they are expensive because they are not imported, and hasn't been since 94, so what is out there is all there is. very limited numbers, there are fewer of these rifles in the market then the chinese pre-98 AK imports. the TIGR were only imported for just a few short years, 2 or 3 only a a handfull, maybe 100, soviet military ones were imported by KBI. you are looking at around 15K+ for one. TIGRs, you're looking at 3K+. CALIFORNIA ARMORY TIGR, around the 6K range NDMs are also way up in the price as well. 7.62x54r going for more then the .308 versions these rifles now a -
buy a safe, a lock on the trigger, mag well, is not going to deter a criminal who breaks into your house. my advice get a LARGE safe, as your collection grows you will definetly need the room to house them.

some folks can't afford to plunk down more then what a AR cost for one. in the civilian shooting community a real ACOG won't even see 1/1,000,000,000,000 of the abuse that it normally would be expected by soliers in combat. in the civilan shooting community, it's all about the "kewl factor" and this knock off has that, right down to the markings, at a fraction of the cost.
-
read the description, " It is built by high end optic factory in China" and the auction descrption "TRIJICON ACOG style scope". so yes, it's knock off. the guy is not trying to pull off anything. or claim it's a real ACOG.

AR stripped lower restrictions
Matthew Hopkins replied to pwrtrip99's topic in Other Weapons - RIFLES (non-AK based)
nope doesn't sound "kosher"- here is why I say that - when the 01FFL (dealer) got that stripped lower, he had to log it in as such in his book. now, if he puts a stock on it and sells it as a rifle, and checks rifle on the 4473, then he is manufaturing without a licence, talking a stripper lower and making it into a rifle is manufaturing. now if this 01 FFL also has a SOT (07 FFL) then that wouldn't be a problem of him doing that. the ATF is cracking down on 01 FFLs, making rifles and selling them as such, without a 07 FFL. the vast majority of states consider a stripper lower -
any of these country's suprlus 7.62x51 ammo is good: Germany, Austrialian, , South Africa, England, Argentina, there might be a few more, I have fired all those named country's ammo them when they were available and never had issues with them. the only ammo I would stay away from is Pakistan and India

Has anyone ever done a PAR-1 style pump conversion to a S12
Matthew Hopkins replied to 6500rpm's topic in Saiga-12
turning a semi-auto shotgun into a pump? that's like putting a mazda engine in a formula 1 race car. -
I don't know about al. law, but here in ohio a resident from one county can go to a adjacent county and get their CCW licence from that sheriff. most folks in cuyahoga county drive to medina, lake or geauga county and subnitt their form there, the cuyahoga county sheriff drags their feet on issuing CCWs, waiting the full statutory time before issing it.

all ammo is not made equal, if you zero with one brand of ammo then switch to another brand, your POI is going to be slightly different then what is was. even within the same brand name you are going to have variations from one LOT to another.

IMO it simply isn't worth to spend a dime to make a pistol a AOW. just grab the magazine, it's basically the same thing, it's just a few inches back.

Legal HG for the Draco?
Matthew Hopkins replied to corbin's topic in Second Amendment, 922r & the law
it's not what anyone on this forum thinks if it is or isn't, it's what the ATF says if it is or isn't. I, myself, wouldn't chance it, I don't have the 10s of thousands of dollars laying around for attorney fees. and I know that the defense, "but you're honor, the consensus on a gun forum says it's not a verticle grip" won't fly. if you want to real to know contact the ATF technical branch and get it in writing. -
ah no, for what it would take to make it $$$$$$$$$, it would be cheaper to buy a bakelite mag
-
No, I just dropped the flyer on the table and walked off. He was set up right beside the DEA, BATF table at the Gunshow. if you wanted to know why, that was the time to ask, when they were right there. but as you didn't it's all just speculation on our part. so here is mine - I had a AR15 that has a collapsable stock and it collpased on me when I was firing. what happened was that the pin, unscrewed a bit and it collapsabled on me, it was a easy fix I just LOC TITE the screw so it wouldn't unscrew it self. now I'm not saying that is their reasoning why they ban collapsable stocks,

I don't know how you are loading the mag, but if you are shredding your fingertips, you are obviously doing something weird in loading them. I have been manually loading steel AK mags for over 15 years and never shredded my fingertips while doing it.

one person I know off SBR'd (form 1) his VECTOR ARMS V51 pistol.

Looking for a Saiga 12 that function 100% out the box.
Matthew Hopkins replied to AK-OD's topic in Saiga-12
no dealer or store is going let you take the thing apart. that is how parts get lost, or the person damages the firearm. what he is talking about is looking in the barrel itself to see 3 gas port holes, hence the mirror and light. -
Looking for a Saiga 12 that function 100% out the box.
Matthew Hopkins replied to AK-OD's topic in Saiga-12
althought it does happen, any firearm can be a dud right out of the box, that is why there is a warranty on them for workmanship. you can't tell, just by eyeballing it, determine the functionality of it. you have shoot it. as to how to tell a S12 will have a threaded barrel, there will be a cap on the end of the barrel that can be screwed off. -
it's a used gun, and a post ban one at that. and not anyway shape or form a desirable or 'rare". I wouldn't even remotely call it as "collectable" either. workmanship on those is crap just like the WASRs, , so no way a used SAR is worth anywhere above the 300 dollar range, except for the seller.

it makes the insertion of a fully loaded mag much easier, if the bolt is locked back.
-
not that I know of. but lets say for the sake of argument that someone did, and lets further say that they actually worked as good as the surplus mags, you would have to take a giant leap of faith there. the price for one would probably be 4 times what a surplus metal mags go for. now I don't know about you, but I am not about to shell out that kind of money for one mag, when I can buy 4 mags for the same price.
-
I can tell you without a doubt that FIOCCHI does not even cycle the bolt. bought a box of it, and it turned my S12 into a pump shotgun

keep it as it is. if someone can't follow the detailed instruction written at 5th grade level, they shouldn't be allowed around pointy objects, let alone even own a firearm.

Background Check w/NFA Trust??
Matthew Hopkins replied to TO THE FLOOR IN A 63's topic in NFA Section
a name and address is enough that they can run a detail check on anyone. so this "guy who works for a class 3 dealer" is talking out his ass. -
